We should bring top 10 posters of the day back!

My point was, when you start giving ranking people by post count, you are rewarding them for quantity and that means people will start posting just for the sake of posting. You don't ever want to encourage that, it just makes a mess of the boards. ^-^

No offense but come to think of it, it shouldn't even be regarded as bragging rights. It'd quickly turn into something of a list of shame for those writing the lowest effort posts. :p
I can definitely see that. Maybe similarly to how bells are given the system could be changed so that it counts for how much you write rather than how many posts you make?

top bell earners via posting per day lol

my fear with the top posters by just post count is that it'll overrepresent basement threads, mafia games, and bumping selling posts (though to a somewhat lesser extent)

Well haven't people always done that though :p Also basement is basically for that kind of posts (within rules of course)

Anyway, please bring it back I'd love it.. I loved looking at that list haha

That would already be a whole lot better, actually! Good idea. I wonder if that would lead people to write unnecessarily long posts, though. You see, I can add a run-on sentence to the end of this paragraph that doesn't really add much to the point I am making, it just increases the amount of text in my post as if I were writing a school essay with a minimum word count and if we stick to that analogy, then more words would mean a higher grade and that seems a little unfair as well :p

This is exactly what happened with the old system! A top bell earner system would actually fix that, because it wouldn't count basement posts at all, and bumps would only give you a minimal amount of bells. Still wouldn't fix the issue with long posts for the sake of long posts though...

Maybe they decided not to bring it back specifically because people have always done that? :p I also remember reading that the basement is not supposed to be for meaningless posts and more for having fun together. I don't know exactly how it was written but the basement isn't a lawless wasteland and there have actually been threads locked by mods for not having a purpose.

Not saying it's a lawless mainland but most threads there are simple one, two, three word games and if you reply to those like some and I did you will get posts always and it's not like it's rewarded other than me sitting on total top posters all time since they actually count basement posts lol

people kinda already do that to get bells though tbh so it wouldnt be too different. Even then it might end up encouraging people to put more thought into their posts instead of the short sentences a lot of people post in discussions
If people just post very obvious long posts that literally go nowhere and are just spam then there could be a rule against that

Loving this idea, I do miss the top posters list!! It used to be fun to see who the most active members are.

Top bell earners list seems to be a little bit too much for me, it might just encourage people to send eachother bells to get up top... I’d honestly be surprised if forums were capable of that feature though

Yes! I miss the top ten posters too! When the site wasn't as active before New Horizons, sometimes I would actually make the top ten. It was fun. ^-^
