Watch out for hackers on Club Tortimer

flipping the wi-fi switch on the side of your 3DS. if your model doesn’t have one, press the power button instead.

Does the 3DS Galaxy have the wifi switch?

yeah hackers have learned how to warp an entire session now. if you end up back in "your town" before you can do anything about it, error. pop your game out, turn your ds off, flip the wifi switch. whatever you want to to do to error. keep note of who warped you so if you end up on the island with them again, block them and leave immediately so it saves.

the only time i've been warped was because we all asked the hacker to do it.

also i run into far, far less hackers on the international island, for those of you looking for exclusives. and i don't usually feel bad for going and leaving immediately since i usually don't speak the language of the one person that is there.

I only went to the online island to get the exclusive items.

I don't talk to anyone.

I get what I want, and leave.

That's very interesting.. I honestly haven't heard of this before and I'll definitely be sure to be aware of this before going to Club Tortimer again. I previously have run into hackers and have not dumped my tools onto the beach before going there and I'll be sure to do that now. It's just really unfortunate how people like this exist and ruin the game for others when it's literally animal crossing.. Sorry you had to go through this. :(

That's awful! I'm terribly sorry to hear that some fool did that to you.

I'd like to thank you for sharing your story with us. I'll tell it to my friends, and I'll be more cautious when going to the islands from now on. I can't believe people who deliberately ruin the gaming experience for others. What morons they are.

I never ran into anyone like that or who was malicious. Whenever I go to an island, it's normally to do tours, get medals, get some exclusive item, and or bug/fish hunt. I used to frequent the place to find people to hang with, but that's not the case now when I have places like this.

Now whenever I go to the island and see someone who seems to be hacking or hear someone claim they are one, I immediately leave or kill the connection. Especially if when I'm trying to leave the screen for leaving takes forever.

Last time I went on international CT, a German hacker had an Angela Merkel TPC (and was also dressed as her?) and asked me about brexit. After that the 'looks like it's time to go home.' banner appeared and tried to send me home, but the loading screen was on a loop for a while so I flicked the switch.
I didn't know they could actually change tougher tools/designs, I'm glad I errored :(

Yeah this is reminding me back of the Phantasy Star Online era where people used actionreplay (a cheat code device) to corrupt people's data. Long story short is they would FSOD people in servers and games (freeze the game) and some went a step further by having the game reload itself and then FSOD the people when the 'now saving' screen came up.

It was totally a jerk move and it's a jerk move now. People like this deserve a swift kick in the privates.

I've owned a few AR's in my time.

Not for years though, and I'm not a hacker.

Omg, thats terrible! I feel so bad!

I just like to go to CT for the fun of it, and sometimes piss others off xD

I've only met a few hackers, but none have tried to physically "Harm" me.

I once went to CT, and there was this new guy. He had been playing in his town for 3 days, but when I looked at his badges, he had ALL golden badges. I wasn't sure if it was just me going Cray-Cray, unless if he was a die-hard fan of ACNL (Guilty xD), and had been playing 24/7, There was NO WAY he could have all the golden badges within 3 days. So I just assumed he was a hacker. He went out on to the Island, and pulled out ALL of the GOLDEN tools! (Like, he legit had a golden slingshot, and who the hell brings a slingshot to the island? XDD) Anyways He went along fishing and stuff and going through all his tools (Show-off :/), he pulled out a few golden roses as well. I wanted to leave because I was afraid he would hack me and I'd lose my 3-year town I've been working hard on, but I stuck around. All of sudden, he started walking through EVERYTHING! My first reaction was "HELL NAH, THIS GUY'S A GHOST, BAI FELICIA," And then I was like "Nvm he's a hacker, I'm an Idiot." I was getting bored so I just straight up left.

Another time this hacker gave me tons of BELLS!

Some of the hackers are completely innocent, and others are trolls -_- I agree beware of any type of person on CT!

Thank you everybody for the replies and support! This is exactly what the hacker did and I had no idea what happened. It saved and errored on me as it sent me home, and then.. I was stuck with no items whatsoever except the rental net I had on the island. I hope that nothing like this happens to any of you out there. I'll error if anybody ever attempts to do the same thing if I do decide to go back to CT again.

Ixiepixigirl thank you so much for offering me the patched clothing, but that's okay! I really appreciate your offer though!

Wow that really sucks. I mentioned in the past that you should be okay on Club Tortimer from hacks affecting your actual save, but I guess there's more to it. You should take precautions if the hacker seems to be doing anything malicious.

If you do encounter a hacker and don't feel comfortable then leave. If they are doing anything that's malicious or unwanted, disconnect the system the moment it signals a banner for the game to save. (Arriving, leaving, tour, or just saving, etc)

And one last thing, not everyone that hacks the game is mean. Some people do it to giveaway items, I know couple people who's soul reason they still play New Leaf is for that reason. But there are, and as with any other hobby, people that use them for stupid reasons. So please refrain from making any arrogant comments that's generalizing the subject with one adjective.

Also, my personal rant, Nintendo really should have stuck some anti-cheat in New Leaf.... Pokemon has it. I just find it so confusing that they didn't think ahead. Because there's always going to be those handful of pricks ruining the fun for others.
I mean, at what point does your player ever drop a rock legit? It should have had a detection online that disconnects the session... But they didn't do that. I really hope Nintendo vamps it up with Animal Crossing Switch. Because I do not like seeing people having their experience ruined by someone misusing hacks.

But I'm sorry to hear that you had a bad experience like that. :(

Wait, so some hackers can completely destroy your game by corrupting it through dud saves?

Definitely agree! Nice story by the way, I experienced a different person who hacked the game who apparently joined from the year 8000 (or he is a time traveler literally) and had every single golden badge as well except he just stood there the entire time of my visit. Glad you never had anything that was detrimental to your game!

I definitely agree with you! I wish they could have the same kind of anti-cheat thing as you described, especially to avoid situations such as this. I apologize if I stated that anyone who hacked is mean, it's not true at all. I got giveaway items from a very generous individual who hacked the game for a giveaway town and I've seen others do it for that sole purpose. My apologies if I gave that impression and generalized every hacker, that was not my intention. Thank you for the tips of staying safe at Club Tortimer! Btw, awesome Jambette icon :D

If you are still stuck with the rental stuff, do you want to try going back to either island and seeing if you still have them when you get back?

I'm pretty sure the game prevents you from throwing away any tool with a garbage bin.

I'm so sorry you had to go through this!! This is the reason I don't do to Club Tortimer. I saw you on another thread explaining how you hadn't had any bad experiences so it's worse :(
I think I'll take one of the poster's advice on here and dump my tools and change into cheap clothes before I go next time..
