So I spent all day resetting for a good map layout. I kept being picky about everything, especially pond numbers. I couldn't stand more than just the Retail pond, so I'd find just what I wanted, but with 5 ponds. Other things I'd nitpick were the location of retail, town hall, and the plaza. I had different layouts I wanted, but I found an interesting one. It had all 5 starting villagers' houses lined up in a row on the left side of town. Neat, I thought, I'll just check it out for fun then get back to resetting.
I walk out of the train station to meet Tangy, Poppy, and Whitney.
I've never had a dreamies list before, but I knew these 3 alone were pretty popular. I looked at the villager list, and found Kabuki as well. The last villager was Doc, but I didn't think he was popular.
Was this just really lucky? Is it normal to get popular villagers as 4 of the 5 starters, as well as have them lined up in a row like they are?

Yeah,I'd say that's pretty lucky when four of your five starters are popular villagers.Plus you have their houses all lined up....I haven't seen that too often.A while back I was resetting to start an all frog town and I wound up with four frogs and Poppy.

That's awesome! If you're planning on putting paths into your town you've already got a nice little neighborhood set up. You can also try plot resetting if you would like to keep your villagers in a line like that.

That is pretty lucky! My houses ended up in nice positions all on their own too (though Sylvia's house is rather close to the park I'm planning on making, so I'll probably be moving her out).

In my opinion this is super lucky, but Tangy is my #1 favourite villager, haha. It's also quite a nice map, and having all the villagers lined up like that from the start would make plot resetting in the future super easy.

Lined up like that is pretty rare from what I've seen, but a while ago I had a town with a starting line-up of Molly, Bluebear, Stitches, Apollo, and Ankha....all popular or somewhat popular villagers.
