After I?m able to get all of my dreamies, I?m thinking of redoing the way my whole town looks, but I?m a little stuck. Anyone else been through this? I?m wondering if I should throw down a bunch of paths or flowers, and where I should place my trees.
Where does everyone get their ideas and inspirations for your towns?
I like looking on pinterest at screenshots of towns, paths, and placement of certain things.
So for instance, you could pick a theme and start there, or a color scheme you like.
I place down my paths first, then after work around where I want my flowers, trees, and bushes.
Then I map where I want pwps. Watching it come together is super cool to see.
I got that feeling in my last town, and cleared everything out completely. Starting with a clear slate helped me a ton.
I look for inspiration from dream towns if I get stuck on what to do. A lot of good towns I've been to seemed to have really good ideas on how to place down paths and public works projects. Usually what I do when I landscape is I first cut all my default trees down, then place my public works projects where I want them, then place the paths down, and finally do the trees, bushes and flowers where I want. I actually got this idea from my mom and she is right. It's easier to place down your public works projects first then the paths and everything else. I tried to do paths first, but it got too crowded when I tried to do everything afterwards. Good luck on landscaping!
For my towns, I just do whatever feels relaxing or cozy to me. I don't necessarily use inspiration. I like the natural forest look of a town, but I can also see the appeal of meticulously planning your town out. This time around I'm thinking of actually laying down a path for the town. I would also like to have fruit orchards with suiting PWPs. My town layout is super good for wide, creative areas.
Pinterest is always a great place to find inspiration, followed by Tumblr. Even if I'm not looking to reset my town, I always love looking through both of those websites for fun You can find some really awesome things, such as how to decorate your town with PWPs, house decorations, and heaps of QR codes!
If you have a certain theme you're looking for, search by that theme (eg "acnl fall town" if you want to make a fall themed town).
It's also helpful to look up different maps that people have posted. Find one you like that you think would suit the type of town you're looking for, then try to reset til you get a map that matches that one
What I tend to do is think about the town theme I want (personally I have a pink themed town) and then look up images on Tumblr and Pinterest to get inspiration from there, as a lot of users upload screenshots of their towns. I also find the Dream Address thread on here super useful as there are organised lists of different themes, so you can find ones you’re interested in and visit those towns! Another thing I like doing is watching dream tour tours/general town tours on YouTube c:
I don't really enjoy planning it out too much, so I just focus on little parts of town at once that need landscaping. I have redone my zen themed garden a few times, but I think I'm happy with it now so I've moved on to the part of town where I have my lighthouse. I'll spend some time breeding hybrids to plant there and will play around with how to place these until I'm happy there as well. I think it's much more relaxed to play like this, planning it out too much would make me stressed and take some of the fun away..
Like everyone else, I get inspiration from looking at pictures online and visiting dream towns. But like Nougat, I also tackle small sections instead of trying to figure out everything as a whole. It just seems too overwhelming to me to try plan out the entire town at once. So I come up with a basic theme or feeling that I want to evoke, but then I do one or two small areas at a time, usually starting with the areas I already have a clear vision for. Then, I just try to make each of the different sections merge together in a way that feels natural.
I'm bad at landscaping with trees and flowers and such, so I find it easier to start from major buildings, get a general idea of where my paths should be, then place PWPs and add the decorative stuff last. It's just simpler for me to use trees and flowers to fill in gaps.
I don't go out of my way to look into websites for inspiration, I haven't. Like some of above posts have said, it'd be so tiring, planning out too much, trying to make your town look perfect, unless you're the type perfectionist. I'm never, and haven't ever, been a perfectionist - too lazy to be so...
What I want to express with/see in my towns ( so-called inspiration? ) is already in my mind always. So I enjoy thinking about how to make it be true. And on the process, I don't plan out what item/path/landscaping I must do etc. and would just use anything I happen to come across. For an instance, say, I got a certain item from my villager. Then I start to think, like "hmmmmm this might look this way in this room?" And I just try putting it there. If it turns out great, I'd start thinking what item should be added so it gets closer to the picture I imagine. And when it doesn't look great, I'd just put that info in my memory bank, about that certain item - how it looks in what design/etc. Same goes to landscaping or QRs. I just do what comes to my mind that moment, and when it doesn't look great, I just dumb that idea. All these process is actually, the fun of NL to me. And the town that was made like that, is my only own town - doesn't look resembling to any towns I've seen. Hope this makes sense.
