Want to change which villager moves into my town - help!!

A few days one of my villagers left town, taking me back down to 8 villagers. Then today I noticed a new fenced off area had appeared where the area had been reserved for a new animal's house to move into tomorrow. My question is, if I time travel back 24 hours or so (ie. to before the new plot had been generated), is it possible the game will give me different animal instead?

No. Once you've started the game as mayor, it automatically saves so you can't change which villager is moving in.
