Are you playing acnl or acnh? I put code into add friends. It's a separate area from the game...a button on top of home screen. I'm playing Animal Crossing New Leaf... ACNL. It would make a difference if you were on the Switch. Mine is a 3DS XL.
FC stands for friend code. DC stands for Dream Code. You don't put in letters, just numbers.

I was new to this game about 6 months ago. My kids have me the system and bought the game for me after I broke my leg and had to have surgery. They thought it might give me something to do while I was laid up. Now I'm addicted
