I have an open plot right now and haven’t found anyone I connected with while island hopping. My boyfriend has had two move-outs: Zell (several weeks ago) and Cashmere (a few days ago). I’d be happy to have Cashmere but have no interest in Zell, as he was my NL neighbor for years already. If I pick up a villager from his void, is it guaranteed to be Cashmere? Or might Zell pop up in the free plot? Is there a point at which voided villagers “expire”? Will the game take into account the fact that I’m missing a Snooty when choosing between the two?

Afaik time doesn't matter. I had Octavian move out literally weeks ago and he moved into my friend's empty plot a few days ago. The game will be more likely to fill the plot with a personality type you don't have on your island, so the odds are in your favour. However, it's not a guarantee!

I think voided villagers override the "filling in with a personality type you don't have" mechanic.

I'm interested in the answer--I've picked up two voided villagers now (Axel, a third jock when I had no smugs) and Chadder (a second smug when I had no lazies), and I'd like to know if it's fist in first out, etc.

The only thing that is proven to be personality based is using the campsite.

Voided villagers have a queue and are invited in order (based on my experience). The villagers don't seem to expire and the queue holds at least 4.

My friend just got one of my voided villagers moving in. The villager had moved out of my town weeks ago and I've had two move outs since then. I couldn't say for sure, but I have a feeling Zell would be the one to move in.

Thanks for the info both. Now that I think of it, Octavian was the first villager I voided, so it could be that they are placed in queue. I wasn't too sure about the personality type thing as my friend has all personality types. That's really interesting!

Man, I wish I’d seen any of this information before it was too late. I DID get stupid Zell. I’m super disappointed. I guess at least I can hope for another move-out in a few weeks and then maybe I can pick up Cashmere, since she will be the only one left by then. I hate using amiibo to kick out villagers but I REALLY don’t want to deal with Zell for weeks when I was so disappointed to see him there.
