So like two months ago or so I gave Ursala this blue bohemian dress. Wasn't looking into villager preferences at the time, but I now know it fits none of her preferred styles/colors (red/orange, simple/cute). She hung that dress on her wall and never touched it... until a couple days ago. (I'd rather she just toss it though lol she doesn't look that good in it.)

But my theory is the reason she's been wearing it all of a sudden is because I've built up enough friendship with her that she doesn't care as much - I don't know why else she would do it, maybe it would have to do with how the game picks what outfit she puts on for the day and it's just a ridiculously low percentage for the non-preference-matching stuff? Billy and Clay, the other two villagers I'm really tight with, show similar patterns - they're willing to wear things that don't quite match them, whereas maybe in the past they weren't so keen on it. Anyone else have a similar experience?

This is an interesting theory. I think that you may be right. I sent Marshal a jacket overnight the first day he moved in & it sat in his house for the longest time. Just yesterday he started to wear it -- our friendship has been getting there from daily gifting of furniture so maybe??

I think you might be right! I was gifting my villagers clothes that I later found weren't anywhere near what they preferred but they wear them frequently regardless. These are villagers that I've maxed out friendship with and gotten photos from. However, Muffy absolutely refuses to wear the tiara I gifted her even though she was the first to give me her photo weeks ago :(

I have noticed something similar with one villager as well. The first thing I gave her was not one of her preferences, but she has been wearing it again despite having a lot of other clothes that fit her preferences. I can't figure out if it's related or just RNG.

Hmm, and it was the normal tiara, right, not the tiara hair? Interesting. If you're familiar with that one spreadsheet where they datamined villagers' interests and subtypes and stuff, I remember there was a parameter that may determine how willing villagers are to wear hats. The dataminers don't know what it does for sure, but a select few villagers have it set to "Avoid" - Kid Cat, Agent S, Big Top and Rocket, all of whom wear helmets. The other options I think were "Prefer" or "Normal." I'm reaching pretty far, but maybe that has something to do with it? Does Muffy wear other hats/head accessories?

(I looked for the spreadsheet I mentioned but the file seems to have changed and the data isn't there anymore? Yeah...)

Yeah it was the regular tiara and it looked so cute on her! Oh in that case it could be because Muffy wears the gothic headdress thing by default. I'm not too sure if this is headwear or part of her character model though. It looks exactly like the gothic headdress you can buy in the shop but minus the hair.

Well, I have max FP with Audie and she's been wearing the football jersey I gave her non-stop for like a week now SOOO
I hope she at least washes it LOL

I looked up Muffy on VillagerDB and sure enough, she does wear that gothic headband thing by default. That may have something to do with it then. It's like some of the villagers having glasses by default - Bud, Eugene, Graham, Cobb I think? But I've seen all of those villagers happily wear other glasses people have gifted them...

that might be right! i sent diva this cute little sweater and she hung it right over her bed in her not-so-tastefully decorated home, but now she wears it all the time! i wonder if it’s because she wanted to switch the furniture around or she likes it because i gave it to her...

i guess we’re best friends now even if she refuses to give me her photo ;u;

Yeah I can confirm the glasses thing. I gifted Graham some glasses so he would wear his default tiny ones less. Every once in a while I see him wearing the glasses I gave him, but he still seems more inclined to wear clothing items as opposed to the glasses haha. Maybe clothing has higher priority than accessories in general?

I think the accessory thing is right, too, cause I gave Raymond some glasses I like better than his original ones, but he has only worn them once since I gave them to him LOL

whereas all my villagers wear clothes I give them constantly

This happened to Mac and a football jersey I gave him. I never understood why he didn't wear it, it was red and active style, both his favorites. I was happy when he started using it out of nowhere.
But it happened again with a baseball shirt, at this point he already gave his photo... Also red and active wear.
Happened with Lucky too. His favorite is simple and white. He straight up didnt wear a bonjour shirt in white I gave him. Then, suddenly, he started wearing.
Static too, but I think he just rotates the shirt on display lol Probably everything I gave him stayed on display until I gave him something else... it doesn't matter if it's his style or not ;-; why static
