I just caught Spike watering the same 6 flowers over and over. He's going to drown them!!

I thought villagers only watered one flower and then put their can away, is this normal? I don't mind him watering my flowers but I have enough as it is 🤣

Yeaaahh... there's a bit of weirdness when it comes to villagers watering flowers. I'm guessing that them not recognizing if a flower has been watered or not is a bug.

I had O'Hare end up in one of my large hybrid plots, and he literally couldn't escape for like half an hour. He just kept watering the same flowers over and over again. OTL I'm guessing that villagers with the Nature hobby end up like this more often since they're more likely to water flowers? Both Spike and O'Hare have that hobby. My Goldie also gets stuck like that occasionally, and she also has that hobby.

Spike has the nature hobby, so he would be more likely to water flowers. I'm not sure if moving around or recognizing a flower is already watered is programmed into them though.

Ah that's interesting...I thought this might've been a coincidence after the maintenance yesterday since I've never seen this happen before. I'm not surprised it's a bug, but I think it's a pretty cool one, since I think it's more realistic to water a group of flowers instead of just one.

It was definitely a thing even before the update, so it's been here for a while, probably since the game came out.

I'm not sure if it's a bug in the sense that the devs intended for them to be able to recognize if a flower is watered or not (I can't remember what they were like in NL), or if they just didn't think the consequences through/they didn't have time to add that into the game/etc. But yeah, the villagers not recognizing a watered flower does result in some pretty funny behavior.

Maybe they're just very enthusiastic about helping. They're trying their best. : P

I have Bea in my town and boy, does she like to stuff flowers with water. She’s secretly trying to drown them and smell their dead corpses after for good measure. Haha, just kidding! Out of all villagers, she seems to be the only one who frequently waters flowers. No one else can get on the same level as her. Perhaps there’s a hidden competitive seen I do not know of that involves watering flowers vigorously.

Bea also has the Nature hobby (like the OP's Spike and my O'Hare), which means that she'll naturally water flowers more frequently, but this has the consequence where she (and all other villagers with this hobby) will very frequently get stuck watering in a field of flowers because there's seemingly nothing in a villager's AI that checks if a flower is already watered or not.

More than half of my villagers have the nature hobby so my flowers are always sparkling even though I stopped breeding hybrids weeks ago haha. I only have 2 main flower gardens and had to block off one of them with a mini river cause otherwise my villagers would congregate there
