Do you ever imagine some of your villagers having voices that sound a different way from their Animalese speech? Or like, if they were in an anime or smth and had a VA, what they would sound like?

I've mostly just thought of the Animalese as representing their actual voice, but now that I have Rodney I feel less than satisfied with settling on the sound he makes as his voice because, being smug, he and Lionel share the same "voice" and I don't want to be reminded of Lionel when I think of Rodney. I think all my villagers would sound like adults - even Clay. Billy in my head sounds like the hyper but goofy old man he looks and acts like. Monty sounds a little like my dad but with a Canadian accent...

I imagine it similarly to how the movie portrayed their voices; the crankys would have deep, mature voices; snootys would have mature voices as well. Lazies would have goofy and cute voices, normals would have calmer voices, not too deep, not too high pitched, peppys would have high pitched voices and energetic, jocks would sound energetic as well... and uchi would have a deep voice but it would sound cool. Smugs would probably sound like fratboys lol.

i think snooty villagers would sound pretentious, uchi would sound tough and tomboyish, jocks would...sound like jocks, normal villagers would sound calm, peppy would talk like they were in a Disney movie, and cranky villagers would sound like an angrier version of my dad
smugs would sound proud and calm

I definitely hear Rodney as a frat boy! :ROFLMAO: Though Lionel came off more to me as like a guy in maybe his mid-late thirties with a fake English accent. I'm female and my voice is kinda low, so I imagine my Ursala sounds like a mix between me and maybe a couple of my friends from high school.

Yeah I was about to say this but noticed you said it! I think the AC movie does a great job with the voices (both English and Japanese). I love Alfonso's voice in the movie but when I watched a video in ACNH with the lazy voice I thought it sounded wrong lol, despite being used to Beau and Biskit's voices on my island. Margie's is calm, just like the normal voice in NH, and Rosie is very chipper and upbeat.

It's been years and years since I watched the AC movie... I think it watched it with English subtitles? I don't remember much of it, but the voices were definitely good - I know that because I could actually get through the movie and enjoy it, lol!

I'm kinda weird about voice acting tbh - I don't like it in video games, to me it often feels forced and I just want to read the dialogue at my own pace, so I appreciate that AC sticks with Animalese. (Something about the idea of hearing the villagers say their catchphrase in a human's voice makes me cringe a little.) If I were into anime, I wonder if I'd feel similar about dubs?

i always give game characters voices in my head if they don't have them already 😩

my favourite voice that i've given to a villager on my island so far is kyle's. the second i talked to him for the first time, my brain automatically started reading his lines in kyle hebert's voice (their names being the same made it double perfect)

if u don't know who kyle hebert is, he does a bunch of voices for anime dubs - three characters he voices that immediately come to mind being kamina from gurren lagann, kiba inuzuka from naruto, and fatgum from my hero academia

here's how i envision kyle (the villager) sounding (the light blue haired guy's voice):
