It can be slightly annoying when I'm rearranging my furniture or doing something I want to get done as soon as possible, but I generally find it adorable and love it when one of my babies pops by unexpected :3.

Diana, Stitches, and Chrissy mostly do it, and honestly I hate it lol. When they leave you don't hear that little dinging sound that symbolizes that boosted a friendship, so pretty much they're there for no reason lol. I only talk to them multiple times until they give me a gift, heh.

I'm very okay with this feature. It simply means that the visiting villager is on the verge of giving you their picture, so I openly welcome it.
