I like New Leaf better than Wild World but for some reason villagers don't say as much as they used to. Maybe It's just my villagers, but in Wild World they used to say lots more and asked you more questions. Now they mainly ask you to do things for them. What do you think? Or is it just me.

It's not just you, the dialogue has decreased dramatically in this game. As well as that, it seems they don't really stay true to their personalities anymore. The snooty villagers are no longer rude as opposed to Wild World when they were really mean. I preferred them to be mean. I can't even distinguish between different personalities, I just go by the sound of their voice nowadays.

i feel the same way..
crankies are just too nice now :c wolfgang, what happened to you D:

The game has been 'dumbed down' a lot for the younger crowd - like we all noticed the snooties and crankies are way, way nicer, and they essentially removed Resetti/made him optional because he was apparently stressing kids out. I suspect the lack of dialogue also comes from the intro of 2 new personalities, so the dialogue per type has decreased with the increased workload...they do say different things about accessories and public works, at least.

I noticed the scripting, in KK's credits, is done by one guy. In light of all that I'm not surprised by the lack of regular dialogue, but admittedly a little sad.

They have dumbed the game down a lot even Phyllis isn't even rude anymore and resseti has like two lines and leaves you alone I wish the villagers had more dialogue and seemed more alive.

yeah, like everyone else said, I wish villagers interacted more :( I have to run every time to try and catch my villagers' convos the rare times that they do have them, and half the time they finish before I get there /sigh

and I wish snooty/cranky villagers were meaner like in WW too!! They're so sooo nice now, such a stark contrast from when Tipper called my fashion taste horrible back in WW lol

I also miss the random letters from "secret admirers" villagers would sometimes show me... the random comparisons always made me laugh lol i.e. your eyes are as round as plates of spaghetti and things like that haha

I actually hadn't noticed :o but now that you mention it I think I understand where everyone is coming from...

It was true(about resetti stressing kids out), he almost made me cry once xD And I wasn't even the one resetting the game, it was my 3 year old sister who would go on my ds when I wasn't looking. I remember there was one time he was making me repeat things he was saying but I could never get it right and I was stuck there for over 10 whole minutes. :/

It's a shame. :( If they didn't have time because they wanted the game out I honestly wouldn't have cared if they'd just copied half the Wild World script over on top of what we've got.

Phyllis is pretty darn rude in the cafe. But maybe that's because you're getting between her and her coffee. XD

New Leaf is my first AC game, so I only have a "newbs" perspective. I think the dumbing down (nicing up?) is better in a way if the demographic is largely young kids (which is hard to believe looking around here). And resetti.. yeah he should be optional. Remember, your average kid is yelled at everyday, probably not as much as your average customer service person, but still.quite alot. At least with new leaf you really are asking for it (literally) to be reamed out. If I had no choice but to be yelled at every time, that would be tedious at best.

As for crankies, yeah they could be more gruff, at least when you don't know them well. It would make their nicer behavior as you befriend them all the more rewarding. It may just be me, but does it seem how rude or cranky they are varies slightly from each villager?

omg I remember that happened to me once too I had to repeat what he was saying lol and I couldn't do it! So I can understand why he is optional now especially for the younger kids! It's just a shame the villagers personalities don't really shine through anymore :(

I do agree, the personalities were better in Wild World. I think one of the best examples of how characters were "dumbed down" is Gracie... In New Leaf, if you fail her fashion check, the worst she says is that the outfit is a "hot mess". When she showed up in my WW town, I walked up to talk to her... And she IMMEDIATELY started screaming at me because she didn't like my clothes ("I've seen wildebeests with better fashion sense than you!!!"), without giving me any form of warning, gave me a quiz with all opinion answers, and then, after I took the quiz, handed me a nasty letter calling me a redneck with a moldy shirt as my prize. Maybe I'm just biased because Gracie is my favorite character, but I found the whole ordeal in Wild World to be much funnier.

I will say, though, I don't really think that there was more dialogue for the villagers in Wild World... I can't even begin to tell you how many times Alli asked me for brown furniture, and every time I talked to Chow, he wanted to have a fishing contest with me. DX The characters had more personality, definitely, but they did lack variety sometimes.

Well, at least it wasn't a complete rehash like City Folk. If it was, I think I'd quit the series.

yeah i don't like it much either although i love the new crankies!! i don't think snooties aren't rude? i went to someone's town and tiffany called me ugly like the first time i talked to her

i do think NPC's are dumbed down though because if you reset and get resetti if you say 'i can't remember' he says like 2 things and goes, which is super lame. i also hate the repetitive dialogue and how a lot of villagers say a lot of the same thing outside of one personality. i also hate how useless characters have tonnes of dialogue (e.g. redd, blathers) like why not make them interesting if you're going to make them talk that much

There definitely is a lot of repeating with dialogue, especially when you talk to a villager over and over again. I do find a few variations here and there as the seasons change, but it isn't much.

I remember from the original AC and WW that the Snooties and Crankies were a lot meaner. The Crankies are a lot more fatherly now rather than being like cranky old men.

agree! there was so much more dialogue in WW along with their personalities being more true to the category. i also really liked the peppy personality in WW, it was more jolly and generally happy than the annoying almost cheerleader-like peppy in NL :/

I think it's similar to why Resetti is now optional and doesn't scream as much. It was scaring or upsetting children, and since children do play the game, people probably complained and so they made nicer dialog.

Yeah that's one thing I hope they improve on but honestly it happened with Harvest Moon too after Toyboy stopped being the ones to make them, and for AC I bet it'll be a common trend too. >> I have a feeling that we'll have this feel-good stuff forever and I'd like for it to go back to it's weirder and sometimes darker roots. It MADE my childhood, I was in such a strange and amazing world. When a cranky would compliment me or act like a big bro in the original it made me feel a sense of accomplishment, now...everyone is nice. .-. All the time.
