Villagers pinging without wanting anything

So Deirdre just pinged me, and when I spoke to her she said something about "my favorite magazine has ended... oh what should I read now? I'm so sad", and left it at that. She didn't ask for anything, I couldn't choose between any options, nothing.

It was as if I talked to her normally, thorugh the "What's up?", "I'm bored." etc. button.

Do they usually do that? I've never encountered it before.

Every now and then they'll ping just to tell you something. Once I had one ping and forget what they were going to say.

Yeah they do, my villagers do it all the time. Really only bothers me when I actually want them to ping for something else.

Yes, they do that.

It's sooo annoying when you're looking for a PWP request.

Yeah sometimes they ping you so you can listen to their random talks.
