Villager's clothing?

I hate what some of my villagers are wearing, but I complain and complain to Isabelle about them and they never change back to their original clothing!

What do you have to do to make them go back?

Send them an outfit in the mail

Yeah sending them a letter with clothing works! Sometimes they will just put the shirt in their house, but you can just send the shirt again. They will wear it eventually.

Complaining to Isabelle only works with designs. The game will pick an in game shirt if the villager is wearing a design, but if it doesn't recognize a design, nothing will change. There is a possibility the villager has a default shirt to change into when you complain, or it could be completely random.

Sending them clothes, especially their favorite clothing, is the best way. You can also walk around with clothes they like and bug them until they ask for it.

I bought T-Bone's hanten shirt and before I could get it to the closet, Cally wanted it.

I sold it to her and she looked ridiculous for weeks. I sent her five other shirts, she put two on display in her house, one in Re-Tail and I don't know about the rest.

Well I just sent two of my villagers who are wearing ridiculous white shirts with colored stripes (that I didn't even know existed) some shirts I thought they would look good in so hopefully they wear them...

Half of my villagers are wearing the Bird Pattern from the Able Sisters. Ironically, I found Marshal's original outfit in the Able Sisters and sold it to him so he looks cute now. c:
