I am currently trying to make a neighborhood area, because I picked, most likely, the worst island out of the four options and I'm trying to save some space. While looking up the dimensions of a villager house, someone said something that made me a bit paranoid, because I had just spent about two hours setting up an acre worth of paths, which was: "Don't forget that you can only have three houses per acre. But in that forum, it didn't list what game it was in. How many houses or buildings or villagers can you have in one acre?

My houses are all really close together in rows of 5. I've never heard of this kind of limit before! Mine are all three spaces apart (side to side in between each house) and I've never had any issues!

Unless we can put houses right beside each other, I think 3 houses (going across from one end to the other) per acre is right.

Edit: I guess it really depends on how they're laid out. I think you could have 9 houses in one acre but it might be really cramped.

Oh, I've never heard of a limit. My houses are spread across my island, with a maximum of 3 houses plus a half of a player character's house in one acre, so I can't say for sure.

This has been my biggest issue with redoing my island. I don't want my villagers to have cramped up yards, but at the same time I don't want to take too much space from the island because I'd like to put other things around the island. It's really frustrating.
