So as super involved as we all get with our villagers, I've got to say that there have been a few that I definitely get a hidden illness kinda vibe from. I could not STAND Scoot until my boyfriend played for a bit and said that he thought he might be autistic, and ever since then I've had such a soft spot for him. <3

I've also had Julian forever and I definitely get a huge bipolar vibe from him. One second he wants to dance, the next second he's saying awful things about another villager's catchphrase or clothing.

Anybody else get any mental illness vibes from their villagers or am I just too into this game? XD

as someone whos mentally ill themselves, i do sometimes. maybe its just me self-projecting but hey

Spork obviously.
I dunno what is wrong with him but one situation was really memorable.
He wore that Jade Plaid Tee several weeks and I really wanted him to wear something else.
But I also had another Jade Plaid Tee in Re-Tail. And then of all the things he could buy, he bought this Jade Plaid Tee. Again.
He has an unhealthy connection to this piece of fabric.

Bahahahahaha!! I mean I'm sure I project my own mental illnesses onto my villagers but there is not a doubt in my mind that Julian is bipolar af. I mean, I just love that Scoot has a frog shirt and a little helmet and wants me to catch him butterflies all the time.

That Spork story is priceless tho. XD

i don't think the characters are meant to be reflections of certain mental illness - it's based on personalities types..

not everyone who possess a certain trait is mentally incompetent.

No.
Each villager of one type of personality seems the same as the next.

Maybe it's just thought projection.

Sure, they are the same, but it is all based on personal experience with certain villagers.
Otherwise the game would be too boring if we would look at each villager of the same personality in the same way.
I had enough lazy villagers but Spork is just odd.

Mental illness? No,but I have witnessed some odd eccentricities among some of my villagers.I've had Scoot for a long time but I never thought of him as having a mental illness.I thought he had a hockey theme(like his helmet bud Puck)but his theme is based on a scooter rider with the scooter helmet and the catchphrase "zip zoom".Spork,on the other hand.....well,I have to agree with Cave Johnson. That pig really does have an obsession with asking for clothing he's already wearing. He's asked me for a denim vest at least four times....even though he's been wearing one for the past three years.Graham is another one.I've moved him around my towns for various reasons and in every town he somehow acquires a hamster cage and I usually wind up with it.

That's just precious xD
Obviously Spork has some kind of brain damage, I mean, if this happens that often.^^
He even admits, it is an obsession. xD

I have Graham too and in the last days he also behaves strange, because every day he asks for a Perfect Fruit.
Like, it always is the first thing he wants me to get for him.

Well, judging by design, I'd say Raddle looks like he could have OCD or being somehow germ-phobic, if that counts :)
Also, Jitters the bird. He has definitely seen some stuff.

not a villager per se, but i think Tom Nook has some mild depression going on. he always has that sad look on his face and a lot of older men start to feel helpless once they get closer to retirement age (notice how he downsized from being a retail superpower to being a small town real estate manager). i have mild depression and Nook definitely seems like he'd understand what it means to take a day off to wallow. i just hope that the Nookling boys aren't afflicted with it as well, because working retail while struggling with depression is hell on earth!

as far as actual villagers go, i think Alice definitely has generalized anxiety disorder. in my town she always paces around in the bamboo forest at the corner of town and i rarely see her interact with other villagers. never mind that Normal girl villagers seem to have that sort of nervous vibe about them anyways.

Well, we know that Nook's past was not the best one could have, and he saw what happens to him if he follows the path of a big businessman (especially regarding his relationship with Sable).
So the boys can handle the work much better, being a pair, while he can do things a bit more relaxed, for example sitting in The Roost. He probably has more time now for his social contacts.
Guess that's my headcanon.^^

After designing Tom Nook's home in HHD and visiting his house and talking to him, I don't really think he's down-sized anything. He's also the owner of Nook's Homes not just the manager. When I see Tom Nook I see a venture capitalist kinda guy. A very successful businessman. Like if we really get into lore and theories, I would think Tom Nook still get's quite a chunk of change from the retail stores Timmy and Tommy run. I was always under the impression that Tom Nook owned those businesses and Timmy and Tommy just manage the store fronts. I can see where he would have a bit of depression in HHD he says something along the lines of how people think he's greedy but he's actually not. idk. Maybe now that he's a little older he's just taking the slower route and really enjoying his time.

As far as the normal villagers go I can 100% agree. The normals are always acting very anxious and nervous. Fauna is always stressing about something in my town.

Graham sounds like he would like you to put him in one of his cages and keep him for a pet.

i don't really get those vibes lol but like all my human characters are Messed Up in my mind because uhh im projecting and trying to relate

mentally incompetent is a really bad word to use for this buddy

I've never gotten any with any kind of illness vibes, but I swear, if Rooney and Rolf could be any more attentive to how I'm feeling IRL I'd be worried the game was stalking me. I ALWAYS get letters from them when I'm feeling like garbage.

All my villagers figure out I'm nuts fairly quickly and they always treat me kindly and never judge me.

I don't understand how thinking a villager has a mental illness makes it better but if they have a good personality and good dialogue I think it would be a great idea
