Villager yards

So I’ve seen a lot of people that do cute little fenced off yards for their villagers with the houses in a grid layout and for some reason have decided that I want to move all of my villagers houses to the opposite side of the island and do it (rip my bank account).
For those that have done this how big did you make your yards and do you have any tips?

Good question. I'm doing the same thing. I thought I had enough with 3 spaces on the left and right side of the house but if I was to use fencing, that takes 1 space on each side and am limited on how I can play my trees.
