Villager trying to move during an event?

I started up my game this morning and Isabelle informs me that today is the fishing tourney.
So I go about my usual routine of watering flowers and the normal stuff like that.
Almost all of my villagers are outside with fishing poles and they only talk about fishing.
Alfonso was home though so I decided to visit him. He told me that Sly was thinking about moving.
I talked to Sly but all he would talk about was fishing. He wouldn't ping me.
I even tried swimming but no one will ping me.

Will Sly ping me after the awards ceremony or do I have to wait until tomorrow and hope he isn't gone? D:

From what I remember from Bug Offs, the villagers stop talking about the event after the awards ceremony. The first time you talk to them after the awards ceremony they might congratulate you, but then it's the normal conversations.
