Villager Trading Question

I have been getting into villager trading recently and even before I started doing so I had a single question. Is it possible for someone to make their villager stay after someone else has asked them to move into their town?

Nope, because even when they're "in boxes", you can't make them stay.

Oh! "in boxes" means that the villager is moving out, in case you didn't know c:​

Oh right I didn't even think about that, but even if they've just moved in they're automatically in boxes for a day. Does the same thing apply here?

Oh, you mean the day after they've set down their plot, the day Isabelle tells you that they've moved to town? Ohh! Sadly (or gladly?!) no, they're in your town until they decide to move out...​

Apparently when I picked up Marshal he had just moved in, maybe they TT'ed to get him out but I just thought that this was also an option. Anyway I now know you can't be scammed this way. Thank you.
