Villager reset trick help

So I bought a new copy and now I have 8 villagers. Today I started villager resetting with a new character and a plot showed up but I didn't want them so I pressed home and created a new character again. I've been trying several times but there hasn't been another plot. I keep checking every corner.

the first day after you can get a new villager there's a chance one won't move in. if you keep resetting more will eventually show up, but it takes a few days past the last time someone else moved in before the probability of a new villager goes up to like 95 or 100%. So you're best bet is to make sure no one has moved in, get to save the day with your new character, play your day and start resetting again tomorrow, you'll have more villagers show up as you're resetting, but its not til the third or fourth day that every reset will have someone show up.

but someone did have a plot today. Wouldn't making a new character again just change the villager who has a plot?
