So, I'm trying to get more requests for Public Works Projects, but I am lucky if I get even one "ping/surprise" per day. I've even tried the whole hiding from them for 5-10 minutes and sometimes it works, but most of the time it doesn't.

I really need more projects to work on. I'm lacking my favorite streetlights, windmill, benches, bridges and police station.

Are there no other way to get more requests?

Better yet, what do you do that helps/works for you?

When doing the wetsuit trick, fill your pockets with money or shells. But, what I tend to do is I'll end up just landscaping or something in one end of town, and then the villagers will ping me as they weren't there. So, I guess, just play the game normally and pings will come to you!

it takes time. thats all there is to it. and just becuase they ping it doesnt mean they will have a request!

It can take time, even when doing the wetsuit trick. Just be patient and I'm sure you will get a request soon. c:

sometimes I've spent like a good 2 or 3 hours on the wetsuit trick and got nothing.
I just gave up and figured it'd be easier just having them request them during normal gameplay.

I've found that villagers you have a high friendship with are much more likely to ping you. Back when I did the diving trick for PWPs (same effect as the hiding from villagers for 5-10 minutes thing you're doing) the villagers I don't talk to as much and/or had just moved in would only ping me about 1 in 5 times I came out of the water and deliberately walked in front of them, while my "good friend" villagers would ping me every time.

So talk to them more on a regular basis and do more favors for them until they consider you a good friend, and then try the diving trick again - they'll ping you every time.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I understand it will take time, but... it does getting a bit frustrating at times. lol

Nerakil, how will you know if they consider you a good friend? *tends to talk to her favorites, but should do it more often.* :3

A few indicators:

- Megaphone: If you call them with the megaphone (while they are in the same screen) and they turn around and bow or wave at you, then you're pretty good friends. Otherwise, they will just stop and look around confused.

- Sitting on benches: I wouldn't count on this because it's generally kind of hard to get them to sit on benches anyway, but if you sit next to them on a bench and they smile at you, that also means you're friends.

- Random letters: They might send you unprompted letters and gifts.

- Random visits: Some of my villagers have started to drop by unannounced, which I think is also something only closer villagers do.

I just talk to them a whole bunch whenever I see them, at least 5 or 6 times. :p They'll often ask you for favors or want to come to your house and stuff during the conversations, which in turn increases their friendship more when completed, so it's a pretty quick way to make quick friends.
