Villager regifting

I got Filbert as a voided villager(he came from the island of chronica). One day I looked in his dresser and he had a knit hat in there. a week or so ago he gave me a knit hat as a return gift. I just looked in his dresser again and his knit hat is gone. I knew that the hat he gave me looked the same but I didn't think they could give away something in their wardrobe. Has anyone else had a villager regift something to them?

yes - often it's clothes they received from someone else but occasionally they hand me a surfboard or other furniture they are regifting.

Yes they do this sometimes, and they also leave a random clothing item in the recycling bin when they move out. It's not a reliable way of removing gifted clothing though since it's so random and seems to have a low chance of happening

I didn't mind him having that hat I was just surprised he gave it to me.

I gave my gf raymond, stitch, zucker, and coco which I gifted them all gold printed tee. None of them have any loyalty and gave away the shirts. smh.
