One of my biggest gripes from the past AC games was the lack of personality for villagers. They were black and white outlines of their stereotype. In New Leaf they hardly felt like themselves whatsoever (in my opinion).

For New Horizons, I noticed that villagers have been given a personality boost. Not so much in the dialogue department- but just personality as a whole. Normals and more normal. Crankies are more cranky. Peppies are more on drugs. It reminds me of the first AC game, which had the same concept.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I haven't really. They all still feel very watered down. They're a lot cuter because they do more than just walk around the place, like sing or Naruto run. But as far as crankies being crankier and snooties feeling snootier and all that, I see no different :( but I'm glad if you see that there is a difference! Everyone is going to feel differently about this I think

I was so hoping they would be improved upon from the labotomized NL state they were in, but we have a new low in NH.

They are more brain dead than ever.

All they ever say is "I just expect you to be wearing your waistcoat now."

That's it, and that's all.

I don’t know about you but the peppy villagers and the jock villagers have almost too much personality to handle sometimes. They are cute but I don’t like having more than one of each in my town. I did notice how much they took away from the snooty villagers though. Like in past games they were pretty mean and almost two faced but it made them interesting

I really wish there was more dialog... That would help me to feel what you're feeling

I haven’t noticed this. When I invited Puddles to my campsite and talked to her, I felt like she was a different Puddles and not in a good way. I had three peppies for quite some time until last week or so and I’m honestly less impressed with their dialogue than I was in NL; I think I actually didn’t mind the dialogue in NL. It has been a long time since I played, so it’s hard to say for sure.

I've only been playing since NL.. the dialogue is definitely worse in NH. Honestly I would prefer if they delved more in to the personality stereotypes. I never understood why Snooty and Cranky were labeled the personalities that they were, because they are way too nice in NL and NH. It would be great if they amped it up a bit more, like come on, call my character ugly or something

I think the best personality in NH is Lazy, the dialogue is one of the more memorable ones, but I feel like it lost a bit of it's charm since NL.

I would honestly pay like $30 for a dialogue DLC

I just started actually reading the mail again.. i got rhe best letter ever today from bob and i wondered if all lazies send the same thing or if it was judt bob but i realized the letters are so cool how they match the presents and everything...

i wish there were more unique dialogues and letters. I've seen repeats already and dialogue carries over to the next villager as well. Fuchsia told me the same thing Flora have told me.

Normals and more normal.

I find it so much harder to connect with the normal personality in NH. I agree, they're actually more normal, to the point of being dull. A lot of normal villagers are very attractive in terms of design and look, but I just can't bond with them. I've moved out every normal that has lived on my island and will probably continue to do so until I find one that's somehow different... or, more likely, until I decide I will do without a normal personality on my island.

Also, uchi villagers are too much like the cranky ones. Wait. No, actually, I think they are even more cranky and outspoken than the cranky ones. I really like the uchi personality this time around.

Interesting. I actually could connect more with the normals now and I remember that back in NL, I didn’t care much for them until later on.. I have anxiety and well, I felt at home talking to the normals. lol.

I don’t remember what the uchis were like in NL. Roscoe seems fairly cranky, but I think the crankies seemed a bit more gruff in NL if my memory serves me right. It has been so long since I touched NL.

I really like the snooties this time around. They’re actually approachable this time! Diana is one of my favorites because she actually seems to like my character being feral.

But for every other personality (except smugs; they seem more dynamic now) they definitely are watered down. I’m especially upset with what’s happened to jocks in particular.

I can't tell if there's a big difference between the personalities between games since I played a while ago, but I do think the actual personality in game fits the type of personality. I still don't like how much contextual dialog there is though. The only thing I heard from my villagers last week was that the Bug Off is on Saturday.

I played WW and NL, and have always liked the normal villagers, especially Kiki. (I have yet to find her in NH.) I don't remember too much of the other games but there was one particular conversation in WW, I think, where Kiki had a conversation with Jeremiah and then actually burst into tears and called Jeremiah a jerk! Somehow, that incident imprinted itself on my brain. Kiki was a normal, but she also had feelings. The normal villagers in NH just seem very... meek and withdrawn. More normal, for sure. :)

I have to disagree. They still feel boring but definitely have improved since New Leaf. I do wish their speech was longer. I feel like they say a sentence and then that's it. They haven't achieved the Wild World or Population Growing stamp of approval yet.
