Giveaway Villager moving

My villager is moving out naturally, will their house stay empty until I choose a new villager? Or will a random new villager automatically fill the house?

Here's how it works:

Day 1 - The villager asks to move.
Day 2 - The villager is in boxes. Isabelle will announce that.
Day 3 - The plot will be empty. It's your chance to go mystery island hopping, or invite someone from other towns.
Day 4 - The plot could stay empty, or it will be occupied by a random.
