villager moving/resetting question..

hello friends! I have a quick question.
I just moved out a villager in my town and on the same day she was in boxes (the 17th) I travelled to another town to ask someone else to move in.
I am now attempting the reset trick to place the new villager's plot, I have my new character after 6am on the next day (the 18th) and after two resets his plot is nowhere to be found..?
am I doing this wrong (I've never done the reset trick before)? will he be moving in on the NEXT next day since someone was moving out when he was asked to move in? I'm real confused and I just want him to be in a good spot!! :c

When you ask someone to move in on the same day someone is moving out of your town it usually takes a while for them to move in. I think it can take up to a week, actually. But don't worry, he will come eventually ^^
