Villager houses from HHD

So I heard that if you ask a villager to move in via amiibo and you've designed their house before in HHD, they will move in with the house you designed. Is this really true? The villager houses in HHD can be gigantic on the inside and it almost seems too good to be true to me. Can anyone give me the specifics of how this works? Not rumours please, only tell me what you've experienced!

I don't think that could realistically happen considering the home sizes + the fact that the amount of furniture that neighbors can use in their home is limited.

I never got interest in HHD since the game is just about decoration and not simulating the usual day-life which New Leaf does.
From what I read we can just add giant furniture to our catalogue instead of visiting houses in HHD.

I've read that their house layout gets imported. I haven't seen this in any official announcements so it might be fake. If someone could try it out and confirm that would be great.

plus hhd allows for item centering while nl does not. So it wouldn't be possible anyways.

I tried it some weeks ago, nothing happened. The villager's house was the same as it is in New Leaf.
