Villager House Placement

So the update supposedly made it possible for villagers plots to not cover patterns, so has anyone tried covering their entire town with patterns while leaving space for the villager house? i want to try it but it takes at least a whole day to cover your entire town with paths. Also i want to know if this is the same with digging holes, and dropping things on the ground. Will a villager place their house ontop of those things?

Digging holes and dropping items wont work...
Patterns DO prevent them, so that means you could do it and it would indeed work plot space should be like this...

I did this. I did it the old PWP way before the update and this was an answered prayer for me hahah. I don't cover my ENTIRE town. I do a square, skip, square. As long as you don't have a 3 x 3 space open, they won't park their house in it. I thought I had covered all the possible openings and of course two villagers found the spots I missed.
