Hello! After not playing since before the Welcome amiibo update, I decided to get back into the game with a fresh start. I've finally got the town I want after much time spent with Rover (ugh) and I just learned about how you can use patterns to set your villagers (yay!)

I'm working on building a future neighborhood for my town and I ran into a little issue: will the plot shown below work? The yellow is where the house will be (will remove once finished), the blue is the buffer, and the rose is the space in front of the door.

Edit: Thank you all for commenting, I'm going to adjust the placement of that house to ensure better clearance for the rock :)

Villagers with the new update (sometimes) will not go on paths. My advice is to outline that 3x3 yellow area with the yellow tiles instead. So inside the square is a 3x3 space a villager can plop down on. Everything else looks fine!

Oops, forgot to mention that I plan on doing an outline for each house in the blue before I pick up the yellow. I just wanted to get a quick placement down before I started throwing patterns all over the place.

I think when it comes to rocks, they need to be at least two spaces away from a house -- at least when it is in front of the house. You'll probably have to move it back one tile.

Yeah, I think that rock might be too close. I'm not entirely sure, but I've never seen a house that close to a rock in the front.

I think the rock placement is fine actually, if you can move a pwp that close I'm pretty sure you can with a villager house, I believe. As long as there's 1 square space between the villager house and the rock, it should be fine.

No, villager homes are technically 3 by 3 + 1, because of the entrance to their home adds an extra tile in front.

You actually need 5x5.

This includes one space all around.

But yeah, that rock is way too close.

Your villager won't be able to place their house there.

The rock is too close. You have to move the house back at least 1 space.

Also, you don't need to put a space in front of the door (later on when you fix the patterns) since the plot itself is only 3x3. It's okay to cover it because that single pattern will be gone automatically when the house is already there.

Yes, but you still need 5x5, which includes the space all around.

Yes once the villager house is already built. I know what you mean. I was talking about how the TP is going to lay down patterns that you only need to leave 3x3 per plot. For starters, people might get confused when you say 5x5. You're not going to have it 5x5 on there initially or else the plot will go randomly, changing places inside that space. So yeah, just leave a 3x3 space empty :)

No, I said to make sure there is a 5x5 area of space.

They can pattern the 3x3, but just to make sure there was space around that. ^_^

So I noticed that the picture I took wasn't the best for explaining the boundaries for that house. Even though I've since shifted it and got the rest of the buildings plotted out I still wanted to provide a better look at that scenario for everyone :)

The green here is the yellow pattern in the original image, the red is the rose, the blue is the rest of the "buffer" space the house needs (the 5x5 area for the 3x3 home) and the black is that rock in question.

You'll be fine except that you probably need to move the green one single space upwards or backwards in the actual game since the rock is too close to the space (or in that case the red pattern) in front of the door.

Not the best representation (I don't have a rock in front and this was from my early days resetting), but it would look somehow like this
