Villager home interiors are not changing

I've noticed that a lot of villager home interiors do not resemble how they should look by default (such as when you invite someone from the campsite or an island). For example: my original two villagers, Reneigh and Kevin, are still stuck with half-empty homes, basic wp and flooring, as well as plain DIY starter items.

When I invited Erik over from a random island, his home ended up being the default look I'm seeing online. However, Marina's home, who moved in next but did so without an invite, also has a very plain home.

No matter what I give these three villagers, they never change their interior. At most, they'll add a large item I've given them, but then remove the item, even if it's something they like, within a few days.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, any way to fix it?

They don't change. The first 5 villagers you get (Uchi, Jock, Normal, Peppy, Lazy) will always have those bare wooden DIY interior houses.

Does Erik's house looking like this?

Ahh, no, but the images I've been seeing online have been similar to mine. I figured it was his real interior, since it resembles what his home looked like in NL. Thanks for clearing that up. It's a shame that their homes don't change naturally over time, or at least can be altered with player gifts.

A lot of people are mistaking the basic Uchi, Jock, Normal, Peppy, and Lazy houses with a villager's real house. It is not your fault, the game doesn't explain this mechanic and personally it is a crappy that the villagers don't upgrade their houses. Usually people realize this once they get their 6th-10th villager and notice how drastically more detailed and varied their houses are.

A possible solution: If you have a friend or someone you trust willing to take a villager and give them back to you, their houses will revert to the proper interior.

They really should fix that to let the villagers upgrade over time leading up to the first K.K. performance.

That's a good idea. I only have Kevin's amiibo card, but at least that would be one villager to easily reset.
