So I've been thinking about the items that you can gift villagers and just recently thought about if the type of gift effects the villager is some way such as raising some closeness or you get more return out of it.

Does anyone know if the type of item given (such:fruit, fossil, fish, furniture, clothing) effects the way they react, dialogue, or rewards?

P.s I know if you give clothing they will wear it very so often, and that furniture may appear in their homes, but I'm not sure if furniture has anymore effect beyond that

I don't know about the type of rewards but I think it's kind of useless giving them fruit because they never eat it like they did new leaf! Why?
Also I gave like three of my villagers cool shades and they all only wore them once and never wore them again and the shades ended up dumped somewhere in their houses, please don't give them shades.

Dang that seems like a waste... I'll take your advice not to gift shades!

Personally, I've gifted some clothing and bluebear wears it pretty often which, idk it makes you feel kinda good that they care about your gift lol

If you give them native fruit they'll eat it right there... If you give them non native fruit they save it for later because it's a special treat... Non native fruit is about the best thing you can give them to build friendship in my experience..

Ohh that's pretty interesting! I don't think I've tried non-native fruit before but I'll definitely try now with my newer villagers to see if they warm up to me alittle faster!

I saw this guide that goes really in-depth about villager friendship mechanics! But basically, more expensive = higher friendship raises. And since each villager has their own preference, things that match their preference will raise friendship more than something random you give them! I found that when I gifted clothes to my villagers, if it didn't match their style, they'd wear it for a day, and then just never wear it again...

Fyi, if a villager has a clothing item displayed in their house and you give them a furniture item to replace it, they will start wearing it. Also, on VERY RARE occasions, a villager will ask to sell you an item from their wardrobe. If you buy it, they obviously wont wear it anymore. Ive found this is the only way to get rid of a clothing item they have. Giving them countless clothing items will not result in one replacing another, but rather just a larger and larger pool of clothes for them to choose from

I feel this... I do miss them just eating it. (or how happy/surprised when you gifted many of them)
I remember giving peanut the octagon shades in purple. They looked so adorable on her! ... then she removed part of her furniture to display them. Instantly wished I didn't give them to her. She did wear them again about a week later for two days? Then back to removing furniture.

Woah this is quite the read lol

Thank you for the resource, I'm definitely gonna be digging into this!!

I've seen this site: https://nookplaza.net/tools?tab=gift
But I can't figure out how to get it to show more than 6 items in one go (you can hit Find Something Magical to see another 6 but that's so slow...)

I'll probably need to try this out on my desktop rather than my mobile so that I can see more lol

Thank you again for the resource it really has a simple UI

I gave mine clothes and shades, she wears the shades a lot but the clothes only a day then displayed them in her home. I didn't want her to ruin her home so I regret that. I don't gift her anything but fruit now lol

Dang you've taken away her clothing getting privileges lol

Hopefully she'll be able to earn it back someday in the future

I don't give mine any clothing or furniture.. I just give them fruit... I leaned my lesson the hard way from gifting them clothing items and furniture..

I also refuse to deliver the presents they ask me to give another villager after they have an argument. I did this once and Raymond gave Ribbot a pink dress, which Ribbot pranced around in after opening the gift.... If my not delivering the present hurts friendship then so be it, I'll mail them an extra fruit... LOL

Oh the tangled webs we weave in animal crossing: new horizons. The cruel stage of beasts feuding for the spotlight of our attention and the poor souls that get caught in the shadows of those fiery quarrels. Only the ones who impress can bask in showered affection. Such is the glory of the dreamies and the plight of the rejected.

I also saw an in-depth google doc about friendship mechanics and just today found out that wrapping anything you give them also makes them happier.

So, at the end of the day the best and easiest strategy is to wrap non-native fruit and give those to people. Except on birthdays, wrap coconuts. Coconuts are special occasion!
