Villager conversations are not as interesting anymore?

Here's one I liked (though it is event based, so not necessarily uncommon):

I will say I seem to have a higher threshold for the repetition of the dialogue,

but also, like @Insulaire above, I really enjoy a lot of it. I also really like having a reason to talk to my villagers multiple times a day, because they are one of my favorite parts of the game.

I've experienced the opposite of what most people are saying, in that once I've befriended a villager 100%, their dialogue somehow gets less interesting... For example, I'm BFFs with Graham, so literally all he says to me are "Isn't it fate that we're such good friends?" "I'm glad I moved to Kame since you're here!" and "A random meetup with my bestie -- nothing better!"

This applies to every smug I've befriended, too. No matter what, we can't escape the repetitive dialogue. I hope Nintendo patches this.

Actually, now that you mention it, I have been getting a lot of this from graham lately as well. I can’t recall if it persists after multiple times talking to him...

I don’t know why it doesn’t bother me more.

Despite not being bothered, I would love any villager dialogue-related enhancement in future updates. They are the heart of the game and I care about them way more than about getting new furniture or visiting npcs, or new activities, even all of that is fun.

I prefer the dialogue in NH over New Leaf, I feel it isn't as repetitive and I've noticed we get new lines of dialogue added with the updates, it's nowhere near as good as the older games though, and I think there's a lot of improvement to be made.

you just wait until you see two villagers making hand gestures to each other, and choose which one you want to talk to (this actually changes the topic of conversation), and press a!

Thanks! I've seen them do hand gestures but had no idea you could do that to overhear them. In NL that just made the villager talk to you and whether you got to overhear things was random, I'm glad they changed it.

I think that the dialogue for the villagers is really bad - better than New Leaf, slightly, but still really poor. NPC dialogue like for Blathers and Redd etc I think are really good, Blathers in particular is hilarious.

Never really thought they were interesting lol. A couple have been funny but for the most part, even in NL I didn’t think they were particularly great. I honestly thought they’d improve on that in this game but meh...

I thought the dialogue was pretty dull in NL already and it certainly hasn't improved for me in this game. Might be because of nostalgia but I remember Wild World's dialogue as very interesting and not repetitive and neither NL nor NH do even come close to that level.

I haven't played any game earlier than New Leaf but I will agree that sometimes I find the same dialogue over and over again. However, I did remember posting a small guide that once you talk to them several more times, you will start getting more interesting dialogue because of the introductory dialogue. I do hope they do change the system in the future and add more dialogue that can refer to their hobbies and zodiac signs c:

Yeah, this happens because the villagers will talk about contextual stuff first (your clothes, events, etc). Keep talking to them, and more interesting conversations will happen. :)
