Smash Bros VILLAGER AMIIBO £80 MARTH AND WII FIT TRAINER £50

To me, those cards removes the point of Amiibo.

They hyped them up so much with the fact they're nice little figures being more than half the selling point...Only to ditch that idea and turn them into lame card things.
They're already for the most part the 'bad' DLC that is just content cut from the finished product, but the fact that it came attached to a neat little collectible at least softened that blow.

I dunno, it just seems really really lame to do that. Sort of like they don't even know what to do with Amiibo themselves other than their inclusion in smash.

I can't see Fox getting discontinued with the upcoming release of Star Fox U, especially since it has confirmed Amiibo support.
Samus is debatable though, since I have heard rumors of 2 Metroid games on Wii U and 3DS.

Though if it's true, they may as well just come out and say "we're discontinuing all of them except Mario".

Yeah, the whole market was 'see your figure come to life!' it just doesn't really make sense with a card. To be fair they're not really 'worth' it in terms of the compatibility right now (IMO at least) but they do look cool on a stand or a shelf, especially when there's more.
To be fair I have no grand ideas on how amiibo could be used outside of Smash for other titles (besides the ones confirmed.) I don't want my beautiful amiibo to go to waste.

Not 'discontinued' perhaps, but taken off shelves until Star Fox U, that's what I meant :p.

I heard that Metroid for the 3DS was going to be a thing, but they favoured Lugi's Mansion Dark Moon instead so Metroid 3D didn't happen. I kinda hope I could see the direction they were going in.

Wow that's crazy. I wanted the Villager Amiibo, but there's no way I'm getting it for that price.

I'd check the websites often. The prices are constantly fluctuating for all amiibo.

People who have paid over ?30 for an Amiibo are idiots, sorry.
I saw a Marth Amiibo in my hometown's game store and it had been reduced to ?10.

People are panic buying because they've heard rumours that some are being discontinued, when in fact they probably aren't.

Sure, the marth, villager and wii fit amiibos are out of production at the moment, because there's only one game they're compatible with. just wait until the next wii sports game, ac game and the new fire emblem game come out and they'll be back in production again, since there is very little real demand for them, other than for aesthetic purposes, and ofc compatibility w/ SSB

I can't believe nobody has questioned them being discontinued. They had been announced for like 2 years, they're a huge usp (unique selling point) for some of the games coming out now and in the future. They're not going to be out of production forever, I hope that most of you have the common sense to realise this.

Plus, nintendo has made a ton of money from Amiibos, so deciding to discontinue certain ones would just be stupid. This has all been a marketing tactic to get people to buy the **** out of a product.

I want a metroid game, because I've literally never played one before in my life. I saw gameplay of the DS metroid and thought it looked terrible (graphically speaking) and the controls were probably atrocious, given that you'd be stuck using the infamous d pad.

I'm so glad that they opted to pick luigi's mansion over a metroid game. Metroid games just aren't very popular in comparison. I mean, where I live I've literally NEVER seen a glimpse of metroid via commercial advertising. I only know about it because I've reached out to it, instead of it reaching out to me (a consumer). Don't get me wrong, it's probably a great game and franchise, but it's just not as popular as everybody makes it out to be.

My friend brought up a good point about the cards. If they do release them it will be good assuming they lower the price since you can only ever keep game data written on one Amiibo at a time. Less costs means buying more of the same character's card for multiple games in the future. Or for multiple trained Amiibo of the same character for Smash Bros. And it would be a hell of a lot easier to drag them over to a friend's place than lugging many figures.

Why would they be discontinuing them? that makes literally no sense to me.

"Hey we're Nintendo and we're only going to make one run of this product that we've been hyping up for a good 8 months and then discontinue them!"

I understand discontinuing the ones that would only be used for smash, but.... dropping them after one production run? That's insane. Especially since most stores barely got any in stock around here....

creates a sense of urgency in the product and makes them more collectible. I understand why they're doing it, even if it is really really dodgy.

I really wanted the villager amigo myself so I tried my hand in the market place on eBay, and an average villager amiibo goes for about 80+ now, so I got mine off of amazon, it wasn't to much better. But I'm pretty upset with nintendo, not only are they causing the market place to shoot up but they are costing themselves and their retailers to lose a lot of money because everyone who bought a ton or has access to japan are scalping and shipping them here to sell for a hundred and even a 1000 or so dollars. From what I've seen anyway. Also, I live in american, so I don't know the exchange rates for money...

I hope they make Ness and Zero Suit Samus amiibos. I'm worried they'll put the remainder of the characters on those silly cards they're discussing. If not, I know for sure that Ness will be a rare one.

Agreed.

All I've done is question them being discontinued. I just don't believe they're going to discontinue any Amiibo so soon, especially how much hype went into them and how well they've sold. At the very least, I expect certain Amiibo (villager, Wii Fit, Marth) to come back once they actually have a new game released, which isn't exactly discontinued, just 'on hiatus'.

The D-Pad was only used for walking around on the DS Metroid. You used the stylus to aim and R-trigger to shoot. It was actually pretty fun, but I couldn't play it for long periods of time since the way I had to hold the DS due to the stylus aiming made my hands tired.

I agree it's not as popular a franchise as people make it out to be though. I assume a lot of people who are asking for a new Metroid are only doing so because it doesn't get that many releases...Sort of like asking Nintendo to give us a new game just so there's an argument against Wii U just being Mario and Zelda.

I'm not even fond of the Prime series. The Gamecube controller sucked for FPS games, which was enough to put me off (standing still to aim? wtf?). Classic Metroid ftw.
