With some persuasion from the responses on my thread about whether or not amiibos are worth it and the rumours that villager amiibos are being discontinued, I decided to check Amazon for a villager amiibo. Well they're a tad pricey.
Marth and Wii Fit Trainer are a couple of pounds less at around ?50, and both were rumoured to be discontinued, too.

Is this an error? Is it because they're supposedly discontinued? All the other amiibo are priced at around ?10 (Pikachu ?14.65, Link ?10, Meta Knight ?10.99, Mario ?10, etc) so it seems to coincidental to be an error.

Wow. o_o Amazon France has them much cheaper:

Villager is 12.99 EUR (click here)
Marth is 14.99 EUR (click here)
Wii Fit Trainer is 35.10 EUR (click here)

EDIT:
Marth was 14.99 EUR but is now 22.49 EUR but the seller isn't Amazon.

Pretty sure people are selling them for more because they are discontinued. You can still get them for the regular price at stores that aren't sold out. Managed to snag the last Villager one at Target the other day for $13.

When I wrote the post, Mario was ?10.... then I swear he went to ?15 and now he's ?10 again.
35 Euros are pretty expensive compared to the others. I could expect Amazon France bumping the price up a bit. Interesting.

I can only assume that's why, but it was put on officially by Nintendo, so it's not someone trying to make profit. That's what interested me.
I suppose I could but GAME are selling Amiibo for ?16 last time I checked and I don't think it's worth it.

I wouldn't call ?30 a couple of pounds less...That's the same price of most brand new 3DS games.

They all seem to be from 3rd party sellers rather than Amazon themselves though, who will most likely be taking advantage of anybody who still believes the rumors of them being discontinued.

I feel sorry for anybody who actually buys one of these over priced figures, especially when shops get them back in stock for a normal price...

I will stick around in this topic. I am curious to see which amiibo figurines may or may not be discontinued...

I just happen to have eleven out of the twelve in the first wave.
I am getting the twelfth amiibo on Saturday as a christmas present from my friend.

So I would have managed to acquire the entire first wave by then.

It's the ones such as Wii Fit trainer and Little Mac who aren't really going to be used for anything outside of Smash that are getting discontinued first. Amiibo such as Mario, Yoshi, Link etc probably won't be discontinued for a good long while.

Nintendo have stated that non of them will be discontinued yet anyway, though it will happen at some point for ^those^ certain Amiibo. I would link the article but I can't remember exactly where I saw it.

I'll link it if I come across it (or another stating the same thing).

Why would they be discontinuing them? that makes literally no sense to me.

"Hey we're Nintendo and we're only going to make one run of this product that we've been hyping up for a good 8 months and then discontinue them!"

I understand discontinuing the ones that would only be used for smash, but.... dropping them after one production run? That's insane. Especially since most stores barely got any in stock around here....

Maybe they're only temporarily discontinuing them until games that correspond to their Amiibo come out.
Such as the Marth Amiibo being brought back into production when a new fire emblem game comes out for the new 3ds.

It seems pointless producing all of these amiibos when only a select number of them are compatible with one or two games.

The prices are constantly changing. As of the time of this post Mario is ?15.48, Villager is ?59.99, Wii Fit Trainer and Marth are both ?39.99

What will be the twelfth? Pretty neat that you're collecting them.

It was sarcasm (which doesn't translate well on screen), because if ?30 were a couple of pounds to me I would be buying these amiibo straight away :p I should've emphasised more.
But these amiibo (the one I linked to) are being sold by Nintendo themselves, but that is an interesting tactic.

It'd be cool if they integrated amiibo functionality into most of their games, that'd make me buy them.

Yup. I bought him and Yoshi on day one, though I had to go to about 3 stores until I found Kirby.

Depends.

I wouldn't mind them trying to integrate it into any and all future games. It would be nice if they worked on as many games as possible, as long as they did something worthwhile.

I don't want them going back to old games though...Mario Kart 8 sort of worked (the Mii outfits were kinda nice), but I think I would be a little 'underwhelmed' if they started shoehorning in Amiibo support into old games like they did with Hyrule Warriors...

Oh no yeah they'd need to do more than add something more than cosmetics. The technology is there so they should make use of it.

My local stores still have those "discontinued" amiibos, and I'm not sure if I should buy them or not.. I don't really like marth or little mac, but if they're gone soon.. I'm just not sure if I want to collect them or not ._.

Nintendo did say they'd rerelease them as NFC cards (that's all they said) rather than the little figurines. Tbf I'm not so fussy but having all the amiibo would be pretty darn neat.

All I have so far is a Peach Amiibo and I found this on a site:

Nintendo of America has sent GamesRadar a new statement clarifying the unavailability of some amiibo, as well as giving a small sliver of hope to those searching for a Marth to call their own. Here's the official word from NoA:

"Some amiibo were very popular at launch, and it is possible that some amiibo in the United States, Canada and Latin America may not be available right now due to high demand and our efforts to manage shelf space during the launch period. Certain sold-out amiibo may return to these markets at a later stage. We are continually aiming to always have a regular supply of amiibo in the marketplace and there are many waves of amiibo to come."

So we may see the Villager, Marth and Wii Fit Trainer again. I also saw a rumor about Fox and Samus being next on the list of discontinues for a while. Apparently someone found them listed on a Target database as discontinued. If so I need to get out and grab them fast =P

I'm sure they hinted/confirmed amiibo compatibility with Star Fox Wii U (as well as Zelda U). I suppose they're discontinuing him for now and re-releasing him for the Star Fox hype. It only begs the quesiton - how will amiibo be used in Star Fox Wii U?

To me, those cards removes the point of Amiibo.

They hyped them up so much with the fact they're nice little figures being more than half the selling point...Only to ditch that idea and turn them into lame card things.
They're already for the most part the 'bad' DLC that is just content cut from the finished product, but the fact that it came attached to a neat little collectible at least softened that blow.

I dunno, it just seems really really lame to do that. Sort of like they don't even know what to do with Amiibo themselves other than their inclusion in smash.

I can't see Fox getting discontinued with the upcoming release of Star Fox U, especially since it has confirmed Amiibo support.
Samus is debatable though, since I have heard rumors of 2 Metroid games on Wii U and 3DS.

Though if it's true, they may as well just come out and say "we're discontinuing all of them except Mario".
