This is a feature I would LOVE to see! What if you could choose what kind of place your town was in? Would you pick a nice tropical beach? Maybe a cool Arctic Tundra. Talk about locations for villages here.

Maybe there could be benefits and hazards to each choice, for example some locations might make it easier to get specific villagers (e.g. Tundra could make it easier to get Penguins, and the Desert could make it easier to get Ankha and Lucky!), but they also make some villagers harder to get.

I would love to see tundra, tropical island, rain forest, or even a desert!

From among these my idea, I would go with the Tundra!
+ Penguins are more common
+ Easier to get Cranky villagers due to it being a far away place, with few visitor
+ Some villagers that fit a snowy theme, (e.g. Hans, Bianca, and Erik) are easier to obtain.
- Trees take an extra day to grow
- Harder to get Jocks due to cold climate
- Harder to get Frogs and Alligators due to them being cold-blooded

Desert:
+ Animals that fit a desert theme such as Ankha and Lucky are easier to get
+ Exclusive plant: Outdoor Cactus
+ More Saharah visits
- Plants dry out more quickly
- Less of a chance of Gulliver
- Harder to get Penguins, and snowy animals

Note: I am only listing 'harder to get' as negatives, no mater what, and 'easier to get' as a positive

What kind of places would you want? What would be the positives and negatives of each?

I think this is a brilliant idea. :) I personally like the different seasons so I'd probably pick a location that has all four.

Or I'd just get another copy of the game. :D

I always wanted a town that felt like a tropical beach/resort. Yeah there's a beach and the island for New Leaf, buttt I actually want tropical beach with sand dunes and everything! Well, maybe with a large beach front, and not have any cliffs. Just the whole area is flat, and you can just walk to the beach without walking down some hill. This is just how I see it . xP

I think a jungle setting might be nice, say with villagers like Sly, Boone, and Tucker, haha. It'd be pretty neat, but really hard to walk in 'cuz well.. jungles.

I would want a tropical island where you started off with hibiscus bushes, and you could plant tropical fruit anywhere you wanted to. Lazy villagers would be easier to get, since they'd like a laid-back, island resort style life, while jocks would be less common, as they would rather be training than slacking off on a vacation. Plus, I love the beach and have always wanted to live near one. :)

It would be cool to be able to have multiple towns for each of these locations. I'd probably get an island because I LOVE the beach! I think a negative would be little quicksand spots (like pitfalls).

That would be great.
The many variations you could create would be mind blowing.

I'd want to live in a forest or a mountain or something. Somewhere that would probably be cold. IRL I live in a pretty tropical area and it's unbearable about 11 months out of the year.
Plus I like the idea that having my town in a cold area would give me more crankies. I'd love to be surrounded by them.

I like the idea but then I would want all different kinds of towns and I would have to buy multiple copies. And I'm not about that life

While different things like tropical, mountain, forested areas are a good idea you would indeed need to buy more copies to get those towns which AC should work on multiple save files in my opinion if they ever introduced that into the game, or more bigger maps with different areas in the map, one section for forest one section for dessert and have the areas mixed so you never know if you're going to get a tropical land mixed with a foresty area or a mountainous with a tropical area, sorta like the way minecraft is set up i think it would be nice, but i like the game the way it is and maybe if they actually thought of the idea they could make a small side game to get feedback to see if the idea is something to be put into a big new animal crossing game to be released.

Also just because you like hans and want him to be "more common" doesn't mean everyone does. I'd want wolves to be more common since I like them but i wouldn't want others have 1% chance of a villager now out of 333 and have that bar set to a 10% chance all because wolves are more common. In no way should the villagers be tampered with regarding common to rare. To climate if nintendo chooses to go that route of a more realistic feeling and doing that then fine it works with the route they took but now it would be silly and a mistake personally.

EDIT: but if they maybe went with "Is (TOWN) mountainous, cold, hot, tropical?) then the respective villagers would have a higher chance like penguins would go into that cold climate if you pick that town. Would be nice to have an option. Just saying if they did it with just a normal foresty animal crossing game like now it'd be weird to do that but it's a good idea and it would make the game have more of a unique feeling of customization to your town

Kinda long but my 2 cents.

Oooh. I'd probably go for a desert-side climate or eastern tropical. Seasons are absolutely a part of the game's experience though so we'd lose a lot to gain the feature.

The reason for Hans and Bianca being more common in a Tundra is because of what animals they are, Hans is a yeti, and Bianca is a snow leopard. Just like the penguins, they live in cold climates. Plus I only listed those two as examples. I'll edit it to say, animals that fit the cold snowy theme.

I think I'd go more for the alpine tundra setting. If they made an Animal World or something, it would make more sense to use these different locations. I'm not sure what the player would fall under as far as occupation goes, though. Maybe a traveler or something like that.

I'm not sure if this has been said already, but they'd at least have to make a setting that's like standard, default, what we have now. I'm not sure I'd really like a tundra/desert for a whole town. Also, it would need some major tweaking with the whole villager spawn thing. They'd have to be like, equal, because I don't think the desert would only have two egyptian villagers but the tundra has every single penguin + more.

Just like Hans and Bianca, I listed Ankha and Lucky were ones I just listed as examples! Of course there would be more! Maybe things African animals like the lions, Savannah, Beau, etc....

I only listed a longer thing for the tundra because that was my favorite of the ones I had thought up, and actually had things that I thought would made sense for the type of place it is! I will work on ones for the desert now!

I came up with those 4 as possible ones because all 4 of them are VERY diverse from each other! Those don't even have to be ones. I picked those as examples!
