I know there was a thread about motion sickness a few days ago, but I'm making this because I feel like it deserves it's own discussions. I had never heard of video game motion sickness until tonight when it happened to me. The name pretty much implies what it is: you get very motion sick from playing video games. I was watching a bear simulator game on youtube, when all of a sudden I got really sick. The person playing even commented how sick they were feeling because of how the character moved. From what I've read, it seems to happen with first person games. It was even worse than car sickness for me.

Has this ever happened to anyone before? Have you even heard of it before?

This happens with a lot of people, also from watching movies filmed in "handheld" style where it jerks about a lot. I thankfully don't get this way, the only game that has ever effected me was guitar hero when it gives you the "melting clock" kind of thing going on from the scrolling veiw. But besides that I don't get any motion sickness from videos or video games.

I still get sick playing Mario Kart unfortunately.

I remember I sometimes used to get motion sickness from playing Mirror's Edge, especially when I turned off the reticle in the centre of the screen - which sucked because it's one of my favourite games. Also when levels on platformers are really fast-paced and there's just a constant scrolling on the screen.

The only time this happened to me was when I was playing Half-Life on the PS2.Fortunately,the field of view was adjustable in this game and after increasing the FOV,I could play it without feeling sick.

havent gotten motion sickness; but there have been occasions where i played video games for so long in a particular session that i started feeling sick. looking at a screen for too long i guess.

I got it once from a first person game yeah, I really don't remember what game it was though, it was a while ago.
I think maybe it was GTA San Andreas? Does it have fp besides driving? I might just tried driving in first person.

Playing the game was okay, but once I stopped I still felt the movement.

Older games and first-person games all make me sick. It means I can't play my PS1 favourites anymore. :(

This is definitely something that bothers me really often. Most games don't bother me that much, and if they do, it's only slight nausea, but it goes away if I take a break. Other games, it never bothers me at all. It usually only really affects me if I play it for more than a few hours, which rarely happens, but when it does I usually can't play it again for awhile since it still slightly bothers me the next time I play it.

If it wasn't for it, I would've finally finished some worlds in Minecraft by now. By the time I make any progress on a structure or figure out how I'm going to make something, it sets in, and I have to quit or play something else almost immediately. And switching out of first person makes it almost impossible to do anything :/

For some games it only takes me fifteen minutes until I'm pausing the game to go lie down on the bathroom floor.

Minecraft affects me as well. And I've never even played it - I've just watched Justin.

i only get game sickness with minecraft on single player but when i play on a server i dont get any sickness

I can't say I've experienced any noticeable motion sickness from video games. But I'm reminded of the extreme motion aftereffect that games like guitar hero always give me and I have to sit down and not move for a couple of minutes before I feel I can walk safely. It doesn't make me feel sick necessarily though.

That's my 1 of my favorite games. I never got it from playing ever.

I can't play a lot of games unfortunately. My favourite games growing up were the Spyro the Dragon series and I can't play the first one anymore because it makes me ill. I had to also skip over certain Harvest Moon and Yoshi games because of it. Also Portal... but I still play it anyway. I just need to lie down for an hour and wait for the nausea to pass after a session.

That must suck. I would of gone crazy because some of my favorite games would make me sick.

Almost all first person video games give me motion sickness, some much quicker than others, but especially fps. My theory is that it might have something to do with the lack of peripheral vision, which is actually crucial. A curved monitor would seem more natural, not to mention, immersive.

I never get like any type of motion sickness. Apparently its really common?
