Vaporwave/glitchy dreams town ideas?

I?m still putting the groundwork into my new town (finding a good map is proving quite tricky lol), so while I?m resetting, I?d like to ask some advice!

I?m looking to build a very... dreamy town. Pink/pastels being a big thing, minimal trees and more a focus on open space and flowers/bushes rather than trees, that kinda thing. I know I?ll have a fountain or two... but I also want there to be an underlying... unease. ?Nostalgia run through a degraded VHS tape? |D not a secretly horror themed town, just one that?s pretty and bright but /off/. I?ve got a couple ideas for interior decoration to pull that off, but what about the larger town? What kind of PWPs or villagers would be a good mix of those elements? (Coco is high up on my list of villagers to get, as well as Flora. Catchphrase ideas are welcome too- I?ve got a few thoughts myself (some phrases related to old dial up sounds, static, etc), but more ideas are always welcome xD)

You could use the bus stop and make it look forlorn--maybe some dead perfect fruit trees around it, and you could drop gyroids on the ground nearby. Let weeds grow up, too, especially that area.

I feel like the fence and flowerbed would look creepy empty, especially if the fence was on bare dirt. Weeds would also help here.

The streetlight ties in with that empty feeling.

Wells in castles in Japan often have tragic love stories attached, but the one in the game looks so cute and rustic I'm not sure it would work.

The Archway Sculpture, and even moreso the Cube Sculpture are a different kind of weird/something's off. More surrealist. I'd put the topiary in here too. (Topiary creep me out.)

The Stone Tablet has a witchy sort of occult feel.

Parabolic antenna, if you have a bunch, could make it seem like there's something weird going on.

! Ohh those are great! Especially the antenna idea, I never would have thought of that. I like the thought about the sculptures too- surreal is definitely what I’m aiming for (I just kinda forgot the word existed whoops xD)

I super like the idea! I re-read your OP after I posted mine and the antennae will work really great with your catchphrases related to static and dial-up sounds. I think getting some cute but slightly off villagers would work, too. Like I have Poncho in my village, who is cute, but his tiny pupils in the big round white irises kind of make it look like he's looked into the abyss and it looked back. Anchovy and Jitters and Camofrog have similar things going with their eyes, but more so. Biskit has those white eyes, which are a bit creepy. Etc.

Not sure if this would fit to your theme, but I saw a few times something like this with this
"Nostalgia run through a degraded VHS tape" theme: Maybe making a room which looks like
a park at night time? Like the Daisy meadow for the floor (or alternative the Wildflower floor)
and Lunar horizon for the wall. And then using items like the Garden lantern, Garden rock, the
Birdbath or Cupid bench. Like trying to make a park like atmosphere.

As for the catchphrase: Since you said glitchy, maybe using numbers as letters like this: h3ll0.
Like, re-creating the original catchphrase and replace some letters with numbers. Or also with
special characters like h?ll0. As it would looks like they try to say something but you don't what
since they say it so glitchy.

Also, can I just say that I really like your idea? That's sounds pretty cool!

The first thing I thought was suggesting the TV with VCR for your mayor's house.

Maybe putting on some paths with glitchy/binary appearance or TV screens. I could try making it if you can't find any. You could also use it for signs and flags.

Ooh nice idea! I had Jitters for a while and he always seemed a little creepy, I’ll do some looking up of similar villagers xD Cube is one of my new starters and he fits tbh, sadly his house isn’t in a great spot xD

Thanks!! I love the park room idea, I think I could make something really cool with those items + some of the Mush Lamps, especially for an idea i had regarding a potential resident. Also very much liking the idea of special characters for catchphrases... maybe boxes or the like, like when a character wont display...

Definitely getting that for the Mayor’s house xD ... maybe fill a basement with them, that’d be interesting xD

I like that for the path tiles idea! I’m not big on paths, but it might be neat to scatter some bar code or error tiles here and there...the flag might be a tricky one, I’m aiming to imitate VHS tracking skew xD

Julian’s actually the very first move in to Stardust! xD I may keep him around, he fits the theme well and I need Smug types to get needed PWPs xD Static was up there... Chrissy and/or Francine may actually be good, they kinda toe that line between cute and creepy I want to have ^^

And to the statue fountain suggestion: thanks! I’m probably going to put a couple around town, but it might be more fitting to make one sort of a central piece as opposed to the standard one... ^^
