The other day I was looking for a new shirt for Zell to wear, and I found two that looked interesting. There were two problems, though. First, there's no way for me to see what he would look like wearing those two shirts unless I actually had him wear them. Secondly, I didn't want to have to mail the clothes to him and end up with a bunch of shirts in his house. Fortunately, I didn't have to. I was able to get him to put on both shirts surprisingly easily by following these steps:
1. Load town until Zell is outside
2. Dig holes around outside villagers so you know where they are (optional, but helps immensely)
3. Fill inventory with desired shirt(s) and 100 bells in each spot
4. Diving trick for 5-6 minutes
5. Run over to Zell and most of the time he will ping. What you want is for him to buy the shirt you want him to wear for bells (not trade for another one). If he buys it, he will put it on immediately. If he pings about something else, repeat step 4.
Doing this, I was able to get him to change into both shirts fairly quickly. I also found it a lot easier to change their clothes than it is to get PWP requests. Not sure if anyone has tried doing this already, but it seems like most people just mail their villagers the shirts they want them to wear. I won't be doing that again.
