Using patterns around plaza?

Hi! I was just wondering if I use patterns on the floor around the whole plaza, how would that affect events with Isabelle such as Explorer's day or Thanksgiving? Will the cardboard cutouts and such remove the patterns that i've put on the ground? Thank you!

I will say though, that if you store items on the plaza, NPC setups that appear there will remove your items and not put them back! I learned that the hard way ;_;

You can find these items in the Police Station though!! And if you don't have the police station, the items will be there when you build it. I went through a lot of panic before I learned that, haha.
