My favorite villager, Hamphrey just randomly moved out on me!!! Can someone that has a slot available for a 9th villager or Hamphrey moving let me come over after around 4:30?!?!?! This broke my !!!! :(

Well, if I'm correct, if I moved out someone like Ozzie or Olaf, maybe I'll get Hamlet back. Hamlet was also a starting villager. But I just checked my mailbox, and I saw a letter from Hamphrey. I just assumed it was a random letter like wanting to give me some clothes or furniture. But as soon as it said "I never thought I'd be in ToadTown for so long." I legitimately started bawling.

I couldn't play that much this weekend, unfortunately. So it gave him an awful opportunity to make me cry by surprise-moving. I wish Isabelle told you that a villager was thinking of moving, so you could actually know about it BEFORE they moved, but NO! It has to troll me. :(

My hint: Get a snooty villager. They'll gossip about who wants to leave and tt 1 day at a time, taking to that snooty at least 3 tubes a day. They should tell you who wants to leave. If it is a villager you want, go find that villager and change their minds. If it's a villager you want to leave, let them go.

Cycle through 16 and keep your eyes on the forums for Hamphrey

Willow does tend to gossip about villagers moving, but I also didn't think a villager really could move away around now, because Big Top just moved in on Tuesday or Wednesday. Hopefully I can get him back. I might just move another one out to possibly get Hamlet, another starting villager, to move back in.

Even if a villager is a starter, you still have to move 16 more villagers out after they move to get them back, you know?

I knew that already. I just wish they could at least move back if another person had a villager you used to have has them.

Before ending your game for a lengthy period of time, make sure you end on a day where you have talked a villager out of moving. After that, you can go as long as you like w/o playing; no one will have the chance to think about moving until the game is loaded again.

Some other good tips:

If you talk too a Snooty and they tell you who's moving and that person won't ping you don't TT ahead. You can risk accidentally hitting the move-out without even realizing it! Instead, get on a second character, talk to the villager leaving and go back to your mayor. They villager should ping you. I've used this method several times and it works best if you get the "Oh its been so long since we spoke" message when you speak.

Also, the days between move outs and ins are kind of set. The days are: You get 3 days of peace ofter a move in. After those three days you have at most 7 days after that someone will ask to move before you hit the move out day again. I've rarely seen it go past 10 total days after move ins.

Start Day: Plot Set
Day 1: Move In
Days 2 & 3: Nothing
Day 4: Snooties will start to tell you who is moving.
Days 5-8: Pings will start to happen. (Snooties can still tell you & move out can happen)
Days 9-10: You usually reach a move out day on days 9 & 10 or later.

I only know all of this because I spent a month helping a tumblr blogger test out these theories and it's near 99% accurate. You may get a few mishaps here and there with timing, but for the most part, its correct. It was a group of us and we did a slow, day-by-day, cycling and counted days for each step.

NOTE: for 10 villagers it's still the same, day count wise.

Start Day: Move out
Days 1 No one can move in.
Days 2 & 3: Nothing
Day 4: Snooties will start to tell you who is moving.
Days 5-8: Pings will start to happen. (Snooties can still tell you & move out can happen)
Days 9-10: You usually reach a move out day on days 9 & 10 or later.

Because no one can move in the games starts the move out process. I will try to find the tumblr post that we made that confirms this, but it was forever ago and because she was "tumblr famous" it got ignored. ;-;

*I forgot to give details on the "day count mishaps*. We found that sometimes, not vary often, a villager will move out on day 4. And Days 5-8 people can sometimes just move out too. I also forgot the denial days:

Start Day: Someone asked, you said no.
Days 1-3: Nothing.
Days 4: Snooties will start to tell you who is moving.
Days 5-8: Pings will start to happen. (Snooties can still tell you & move out can happen)
Days 9-10: You usually reach a move out day on days 9 & 10 or later.

Essentially, everyday after the 3rd day can risk a move out without warning. On that 3rd day start talking to people, and using alts to get pings from your favorites. Have at least 2 snooties, I know "why?" right? I have spoken to one snooty 15+ times daily and still encountered a random move out. You cant always rely on just one. And you need to speak with them a lot! Don't think "Oh I dodn't get anyone after 3 times I don't need to worry." Thats wrong. You need to speak with then until then tell you pretty much. But before the 3rd day, they wont tell you because that games hasn't started the process yet. Again Day 3+: talk to your snooties 15+times. This can save you from that day 4 accidental move out.

For my personal 100% safest way to make sure no one leaves me:
Start Day: Denied a villager.
Days 1 & 2: Nothing.
Days3+: Talk to everyone, get people to ping, force my snooty to cough up names!
Repeat.

But from my calculations, if he was in boxes yesterday, he initially thought about moving Wednesday, and Big Top moved in on Tuesday. I know about it when villager moves away, though. For villagers moving away, it seems to be around 10-12 Days before they ask to move! And I didn't time travel. When Rodney moved, it was way more likely to happen because I time traveled.

Do you time travel? Villagers don't see dates, just days. So if you time travel it counts days, including going back in time. Example. Current date 14 Oct, move out date 17 Oct. You go back in time 2 days to 12 Oct, the new move out date will be 15 Oct.

Essentially one day, forward or back, is one day. The date is how many days until the villager leaves, not the date they will leave on. They don't go by set dates, just x amount of days.

So with that example, 17th-14th is 3 days until they leave. No matter how far you go back they will still leave in 3 days. My above comment is still the same for time travel. This is set, no mater when they've pinged or when you deny. Each villager, once on the move out track, has 1-7 days before they will leave. This is why some villagers move out dates are 5 days away, and some only 2 from their pings.

Also mentioned above, my 100% safe way of keeping villagers still stands. 3 days, no matter what date, after I deny someone, there may be someone on the move out path.

Days only technically count for moves out when going forward, not back. You can go back day by day and no one should leave. At least I've never has that happen anyway. But going forward takes one day off their counter, regardless of dates they say. Essentially, if a villager told you today they were leaving on the 18th and you say yes, they will leave in 4 days no matter what date you travel back to. Again, this is only from my personal experiments and experience.

Now, I'm not saying if you go back in time no one will ask to move. I'm just saying dates mean nothing, its the amount of days that go by that do.

What's happened in you game, I've legit never seen. There has to be some kind of time travel involved. Unless you invited someone in during a move out path. That will cause some weirdness to happen. I've also never seen or heard of a villager asking to move more then 7 days in advance ._.

This is really getting off-topic :D

You might want to see if you can have it moved to a more appropriate location on this forum. Nothing you did wrong, it's just going in a new direction from what you originally posted. A moderator can help move it for you :)

In any case, if you still need someone to hold him for you I can. I have two cycle towns I can pass him between until you can take him again.
