I don't think it works if you bought it off the e-shop, since it's automatically registered to your 3DS.

Basically there's no code since you bought it digitally. If you link your 3DS to your Club Nintendo account, your game will already be registered.

What Bunbii said! When you buy from the eShop, the credits automatically go to your account.
