Unreasonable Changes/Decisions

I cannot help but smile at this topic because us fans of the harvest moon/story of seasons series have been experiencing this for 20+ years. Whenever a new game comes out every few years, there's new things added, and some features that sadly don't make a return to the new game and we're left wondering... why?

Why can't flowers be stored?
Why are there no returning furniture sets? It's not hard to include both - or at least tell us they come back via updates.
WHy are villagers CONSTANTLY zooming? It's way too often imo.

Honestly, I only have two.

1. 10 villager limit. With villagers only moving in after the player actively purchases and lays a plot, there is NO reason why we should be restricted to a town size the same as New Leaf’s after eight years of wait time. Even 12 villagers would have been acceptable. Complaints that “some islands will have eight players!” or “some people would rather landscape!” are irrelevant; locking move-ins behind plot purchases already would ensure that nobody had to have more villagers than they wanted. This was my number one hope for the game since villager interaction is the heart of the series for me, and I was stunned they didn’t bother.

2. Multiplayer sucks. Nintendo justified cuts like low villager count because “up to eight people can share now! Yay!” but of course almost nobody is sharing a switch between EIGHT PEOPLE, because that’s absurd, and the inclusion of player characters beyond the resident rep is so lacking that few people are even motivated to share an island at all. This is the one that seems kinda scummy to me, since Nintendo insisted the one island per console limit was to facilitate family sharing, and yet all I’ve heard from my friends sharing consoles is that the experience of being player 2, as well as the experience of trying to play at the same time, is so pathetic as to be more frustrating than fun. Seems like they actually just wanted to sell consoles by restricting most gameplay to player 1. Again, we could have at least had the option of 12-14 villagers if Nintendo was going to make such shoddy multiplayer that nobody would want to share a town!

I mainly wish I could craft multiples of things. Tapping A over and over again to make large amounts of fish bait hurts my wrists badly, I imagine I'm not the only person who plays New Horizons with wrist pain!

This isn't an unreasonable change or something that has ever been done before, but after the direction New Leaf took customizing clothes, I really hoped that in future AC games that we'd be able to make custom shorts, pants, and skirts. I am upset that they took away the Greek looking posts and some dessert items, especially removing the dessert case.

the stupid 5 item limit on the nook shopping thing every day... like???? why?????? there's literally no reason to place a limit and it's frustrating
This, like many elements of AC:NH, reinforces the slow daily progression. The game wants players to wait for many aspects of play. It’s a feature, not a bug

The new monthly interest in this game makes it so much harder for non TT players to earn bells. I just can't wrap my head around why Nintendo thinks nerfing the interest rate in a game is that necessary? It's not really going to hurt TTers in any way, so why?

Also the 1 switch per island thing with the other players (who isn't the resident representative) being essentially powerless seems so stingy to me.

To be honest, the lack of fruit might indicate a lack of time to incorporate rather than a removal of a previous feature. I can see it coming back.

I agree with everyone saying though.

I can see why they would've not added the tropical fruits from NL back quite yet if they're going to - there were worth less than foreign fruit in NL iirc which made them useless other than for cosmetics. Now what they could've done was make it so those fruits would become different potential native fruits, but wow that's a lot of foreign fruit to try and collect, and especially given the easy achievements for visiting others' islands/hosting people on yours (didn't you have to have like hundreds of visits to get the gold badge for it in NL?) it doesn't seem like Nintendo was expecting people to do that much hunting down other fruits.
I fully predict persimmons will make a comeback though - I posted this in the TIL thread but one of the ways you can customize Mom's tissue box displays the 5 normal fruits, a turnip and a persimmon. Which is weird, cause they could've just put a coconut on it right? But they didn't.

What I find unreasonable is how we can't sit on rocks despite that being in NL's Welcome amiibo update. That had to have just been an oversight or smth.

Also check this out: why can't we display shells anymore? You used to be able to drop them in your house and have them display as what they are - sand dollar, venus comb, etc - rather than the placeholder red/blue/coral. Now, the only place they show up as what they are is in your pockets. And now that we have a furniture set entirely dedicated to shells, you would think... but no. Honestly could we just do away with the red/blue/coral models entirely? Literally no one is nostalgic about that. We could just have them wash up on the beach looking like what they are. Then you could place them around for decoration or on bookshelves and it would be a great touch

Wait and see how they add a shell DIY that it's the actual shell but needs like 3 of them to be crafted hahahaha

Or even better, it's like with crafting fish bait and it only takes one, but then if you wanted multiple...

I have to second the dressing room Able sister's dressing room. This is a disaster for people who love to shop. The step and repeat of this is just daunting and tedious.

In addition, not being able to access the ABD from a friend's island is ridiculous. At least implement a banking app to transfer money into your account while on another island?!

I don't know about unreasonable, but it feels like a dumb change--why doesn't New Horizons have access to storage like New Leaf did in areas other than your home? In New Leaf you could use the lockers in the train station to access your storage, even in someone else's town!
They could have made it simple by letting us access more than just clothes using "storage unit" items, but no. 😩

It'd sure make crafting a hell of a lot easier for those of us who have their homes somewhere out of the way.

So I never played Happy Home Designer, but apparently in that game you could do like a little scooch to move around between objects placed a half-unit away from each other? Like between a sofa and a coffee table? Yeah, so in NH we can do like a diagonal hop-step between stuff if there's space to do that, like a tree against a curved section of cliff, but no scooching between things placed parallel to each other. Why? What if I want to put my foldable chair half a unit away from my barbecue and still be able to sit in it?

For the love of god let us put turnips and DIYs in our closets. I got the smarmiest message from the HHA saying, quote: "You DO realize you can put things in your closet, right?" with regards to my 'trash' in my basement.

If they want to encourage the cooperative nature of trading DIYs at least, please don't punish me for it.

Not being able to store flowers and the fact that they can reproduce asexually if they are alone is an obnoxious combination. It's rained every day this week and every day I've had to clean up a mess of flowers that get spawned all around my island. I'll have to do it again tomorrow too because it rained for an hour today. I don't want all of these freaking flowers. Let me put them somewhere where they won't breed and won't be in my way until I'm ready to decorate with them.

I don't understand why there was an interest nerf, lack of furniture sets, colour locking furniture and mismatched colours of even the same set so you can't collect it all without trading, buying from Redd or being super lucky with gifts, balloons or tree furniture. Let me pay for more space in my house, the side rooms are too small! Storage for turnips without flooding my too-small house and hurting the rating of my island

The biggest thing I don't understand is why they removed villager moving letters, they've had them since the first game and I used to love Saving them just as a memento to see which villagers I used to have. I was quite sad when my first villager moved out and I never got a moving letter from them
