Unity 5 was released not too long ago. It is a new and improved edition of the popular Unity game engine, and it's free. Games developed with it are publishable to a wide variety of different mainstream platforms, one being the Wii U. This not only confirms Nintendo's interests in keeping the Wii U alive at least a little while longer, but also that we'll be seeing a lot of fun, new games to play and we'll have the opportunity to develop our own.

Nintendo and Unity Technologies partnered in 2012 and in 2014 it was announced that 50 games using the engine were in development for the Wii U and support for the 3DS is still being discussed. Now, I don't know about any of you, but as an aspiring game developer, I am very excited about all this. I know I've said a lot of negative things about Nintendo lately, but I think this is a great move. It opens so many doors for people and I think, at the end of the day, that's what's really important. So, how do you feel about it?

I'm unsure what to feel about this.

With Unity being free, I've long since associated it with horrible attempts at what some people call 'games' by awful wannabe developers on Steam. Not that Unity itself is bad, there's some good games that have used it, just that the majority of stuff has essentially made me think of 'Unity' as a dirty word.

With such gems like 'Meme run' getting on the Wii U eShop, this doesn't really add to my optimism about it.

I guess if the games are actually being released or with the approval of the Unity people themselves, there's hope since I doubt they want to make their own engine look like trash, especially with the reputation it got with a lot of people already.

It's probably going to be an overall good move by them but I'm not getting my hopes up. I'm hoping that something like 'The Slaughtering Grounds U' doesn't become a thing.

Ehhh... Nintendo will Announce the Wii U-2 this summer. Just watch. Or the Wii-Wii.
