I feel like no matter how many times I restart my town, there's always something I forget to do in my first days as mayor like unlocking the QR machine, paying back my first house loan so I can go to the island, or plot resetting with those initial move ins. So I was thinking that I would write up the ultimate guide to starting up your town and unlocking everything as quickly as possible. Would anyone else be interested in that?

That sounds like a good idea. Here are the things I can think of off the top of my head:

  • Buy everything in Nook's and Able Sisters to unlock shops as fast as possible
  • Find a safe place to start planting your perfect fruit
  • Do all of Isabelle's requests at the beginning of the game to get tools and fruit
  • Dig up fossils every day and donate them to get the second museum floor and cafe faster

Maybe another good idea would be to ask a friend to hold onto a bit of money before you restart so you can get into the game quicker. That may be more of an individual preference, as some people may want to start from scratch, but if you're aiming to progress in the game quicker, asking a friend to hold a little bit of money for your restarted town is a good idea.

Ooh, I like that a lot. It's all about personal preference but I haven't even thought of that, despite having a sister who plays the game and always having a lot of money saved up that just ends up disappearing into the void.

How about the start a 'new save file' every morning before you start up a game to help locate villagers in specific areas unless it's the villager you want then save at the moment since restarting would just randomly pick another villager (unless you've personally asked a villager from another town to come)
Thats a big tip- i wouldve loved to know that one

Another thing that would be good is maybe something about the maps- I never played the game before or even looked it up properly online (only been playing a couple weeks) so to me picking a map was just as good as any. I dont mind my map now but having seen some other peoples maps I can see how much they can work on it etc. So I dont know whether you have all the maps when you first play it and its a matter of flicking back and fourth or whether you cant go backwards or you only have a couple to pick from and so you have to turn it off and on again. Does that make sense?

Ooooooo also about the flowers- putting similar ones together to make more and even hybrids. I only learnt this 2 weeks into the game haha

I think a key thing I always forget is to take lots of photos!

I like to look back at a photo of the first time I went into each store or just sitting on that little stump between Nooklings junction and the able sisters before the flower shop blocks it all off.

The pond & rock placements of town hall, retail, and the train station are also a big indicator when restarting for a new town. This post from tumblr goes into way more detail.

I'd definitely be interested in that! it doesn't really apply to me at the moment, since I haven't reset my town in ages but I do tend to forget to do things in-game when i'm just starting out, such as speak to Tortimer so I can unlock the island. I think i'll be a great idea and very helpful to new players.
