Uchi Appreciation Thread

Uchis have some of the best designs IMO. They're more unique and less pastel and I feel like overall their designs match their personalities better than some of the other personalities. And uchis are so sweet and have great attitude.

My two favorites are Flo and Muffy--Flo was my first NL uchi, and Muffy was my NH starter. I also have had Agnes in NL and liked her a lot.

I think uchis are tied with crankies for my favorite personality--which one I pick depends on which of the two I most recently interacted with.

I don't want to be turbo woke but I have to wonder if at least some of the hate uchis get is because they're the only female personality type that isn't hyperfeminine

I was thinking it's because they're not over the top cutesy which might be sort of the same thing.

I know I just made a big post here but looking through this thread reminded me of something--why are some people's uchis still saying that whole "you again? is this island not big enough for both of us?" thing to them? Does it not go away with friendship level increasing? Because Reneigh hasn't said that to me since like, a week or two after I started... I guess that could certainly play into people not liking their dialogue but I don't get why it happens lol and until I made a similar thread to this one a while back, I had no idea it was an issue. Unless the people with this issue just aren't getting high enough friendship with their uchis, I really hope there'll be a patch to decrease the frequency of that dialogue somehow because I hate that it's turning people off from them

Muffy gave me her picture first, weeks ago, and still says it. I just figure she's sarcastic like me, so it doesn't come across as cold or rude to me like it does to some people.

Ok I'm ready now to hype up my home skillet Ursala! for the record that is how her name is spelled, in case some aren't familiar

Unlike a lot of the other uchis, she's got nothing punk or against the grain going on, not that there's anything wrong with punk but I guess she just stands out a little from that. She's this down-to-earth pink bear in a chill summery dress and she just wants everyone to get along and look out for each other as she does. She likes to mess with Billy a little bit and Lionel freaks her out a little (and, well, me too) and Sandy takes advantage of her sometimes. The mom friend, basically. And while I get where people are coming from that "sisterly" doesn't quite sum it up, if there is a sisterly villager I'd say Ursala is closest to it. Sometimes mom friends come off that way haha.

Cutesy, no not really, but her color scheme/aesthetic is pleasant enough to allow her to blend in with a lot of different themes imo. Her NL picture doesn't do her justice for NH at all. Her house, honestly really nice, lots of light, she's got a thing for plants and the color pink but she's not obsessed with either which I love. Maybe she's a gardener? I'm trying to slowly get some furniture for her starter house, trying to follow that theme. Guess it also works out that I'm planning a blue flower garden right next to her house...

She's also a singer, does it all the time but the flowers always distract her before she can complete a tune like every time and it's irritating but also kinda funny.

My favorite Uchi has forever been Mira. She was one of my best friends in new leaf and I payed good tbt to get her back then. I didn’t have her amiibo when new horizons came out so I thought I was going to experience some different uchis, but lo and behold: she was my starter! I literally got up and ran through the house squealing like a toddler.

She’s never allowed to leave now and I love dressing her up in red and yellow. ❤

If her eyes bother u maybe muffy isnt a good choice but frita seems very sweet! And if the shirts on sheep bother u you can always try different shirts (I find shirts with ruffles or organic patterns hide how squished they look haha )

I listed Frita among my favorite uchis with Muffy as an honorable mention so it's not as if the shirts on the sheep will stop me from loving them since I was already attached to them, but I do pretty strongly dislike it from a design standpoint haha and I want some sheep on my island at some point but I also want them to look as floofy as possible! I wish there was some way to make them change between shirts and scarves, tbh.

Hmm, I'm either getting lucky or not noticing when Reneigh says it, then. I don't get offended by it anyway as it sounds like the kind of sarcastic thing I'd say, but some people just don't get sarcasm and to be fair I don't always get it either. So I can see how it would come off as rude but it still makes me sad that it's turning people off from the uchis. I wish it would go away once you hit the level of being good friends with them.

It hadnt even occurred to me that they do seem more androgynous :0 my partner is nb and they totally fell in love w canberra having no idea what her gender was!

I feel Cherry kinda falls into the same aesthetic as like Reneigh and Fuchsia they feel punk rock but still distinctly feminine

I just wanna say I've been imagining that most if not all of the uchis are nonbinary icons for a while LOL even with the more traditionally feminine ones they just have those vibes to me and as someone who's genderfluid myself I love that. I think it's another reason they're one of my favorite personalities.

He is wearing the Jesters Outfit so it appears long than a shirt (hiding more of his fluff) and the vertical stripes make him seem skinnier so my advice is AVOID anything longer than a shirt or with vertical stripes on sheep

Its understandable! I will never get why they had to make em less round like I understand realistically a shirt would flatten their fluff but think I woulda been more of with the change if the were still round w just a shirt over (like the way shirts stretch on the penguins) but oh well

My favorite Uchi was Deirdre but now it is Reneigh! She is a wonderfully designed character who really does look like a big sister. I think people are really ignoring her for the other new villagers, but I suggest giving her a chance if you enjoy Uchi characters. Reneigh seems to be pretty friendly with everyone on the island after a few days, even Sydney who usually starts the fights between neighbors

Aw thank you! Yes you're right I did forget to mention Deirdre's interior! It's indeed nice, but her interior is too similar to Sheldon's for me unfortunately, since I was really hoping to have houses that look distinct.

I have Wendy right now so I will try what you said at Harv's island to see if I can get sheep looking fluffier - same should apply to Frita and Muffy. Yeah Willow used to be a dreamie of mine (had her in CF and NL) but the shirt combined with the different style of floof (where the scallops are all lined up instead of shifted over half a wave and are so downward that they're like scales) kinda made her design overall worse to me.

I'd suggest Pashmina too! She's a beautiful goat, loves to sing, and has a diner themed house

Her house is a bit barren but I could spice it up with gifts - now that you mention it I can see the potential! Normally I'm not really keen on hair plopped on villagers' heads, but I do really love goats irl and I love the color light blue. I will strongly consider her alongside the sheep!

Also, I just wanted to defend myself a bit here - it's not that I don't understand sarcasm. My jock trolls me all the time - he greeted me one time when my face was stung by saying "Yeesh, I feel like I'm looking at something I really don't want to see. Huh? Oh, it's you?!" It's just that Reneigh is continuously cold and just polite and distanced. She never gives me medicine like others have said here - only my Normals gave me medicine. And it's not because I like them more so I talk to them more - I actually didn't like Gayle when she moved in and wanted her to move out so I didn't talk to her much. And you contrast Reneigh with Peppys calling me their bestie, my Jock calling me his greatest rival, my Lazy wanting to be a mini-me, Snooty telling me she's so glad I dropped by etc. – she ends up coming off even colder and like she's just politely tolerating my existence by the contrast. And they all moved in after her!

Someone on this forum has a hilarious sig pic of my girl Blaire from a previous game saying something about how this is a lovely spot for quiet personal reflection... as in I want to be left alone! See, that's funny. Fair play, Blaire. But the way Reneigh goes about it is just cold, snobbish, and passive aggressive. It's especially grating when I only initiated talking to her again to give her a gift. Like ok, sorry I bothered you... I'll give this gift to someone who appreciates my company instead!

The idea that a female character (or woman IRL) not being traditionally feminine means that she's not actually a woman but is instead 'nonbinary' strikes me as strangely regressive/sexist; women aren't only considered to be women if we're wearing frilly dresses. It could be that there's something I'm misunderstanding here but I'm seeing this sentiment a lot online and it concerns me, because we didn't fight for the right to be able to wear pants just so that a few decades down the line, wearing pants would mean we were no longer be considered women... It doesn't make one any less of a woman if she isn't performing traditional femininity. I love the 'edge' that uchi personalities have to them as well but can't really wrap my head around the idea that, because of that edge, they are not actually female but something in between a man and a woman or somehow neither. idk I hope I'm expressing myself well

I think thats understandable Im personally not one of those people who enjoys like Actually mean villagers. I do enjoy the jokes and sarcasm from having a villager that actually feels cold towards me isnt fun and isnt someone Id want to keep around for long

Im not sure if shes just stuck in that initial getting to know you phase or something but I hope she either warms up to you or you find an uchi you like!

I’m nonbinary and also a woman because I’m genderfluid and I often present as feminine regardless. Which is actually why I said that even the traditionally feminine ones like Reneigh give me nb vibes—because none of these things are mutually exclusive. You seem to have the idea that nonbinary people cannot be feminine, though I have to be honest and say the fact that you put the word nonbinary in quotes concerns me to begin with as it’s a real and incredibly multifaceted identity. In this case however, it’s also just a harmless headcanon that I am not saying anyone should agree with! That’s all I’m going to say because I don’t want this argument to get overly confrontational.

Fuchsia is my favourite uchi, but i've always had a soft spot for Katt and Ursala. Also I know the uchis get a lot of hate for being super mean, but I love that about them tbh, nothing wrong with a bit of tough love!! tbf, i'd say if it wasn't for peppies, uchi's would be up there as my favourite personality in game. I love how aggressively protective they can be towards those they care about, and how much they love and care about plants. It's so cute, and provides a good balance. I probably like them so much bc they remind me of myself, lol so I kinda feel like I'm represented in game in a way. Honestly, I'm really glad that they added the uchi personality and when I go back and play older games it kinda feels like something's missing, I just wish that they'd add more uchis though.

Sadly there aren't a whole lot of uchi designs I really like but I love their personality, it's such a shame! I really wish there were more of them.
My favorite uchi is Agnes, but I also like Phoebe, Frita, and Deirdre. The rest, not so much

I do hope they add more too! I was kinda surprised they only did one of each personality considering smug and uchi still have a way to go to catch up to the other personalities in terms of numbers

My favorite Uchi are Deirdre, Muffy and Phoebe. I love Cherry as well. Have Phoebe right now. Love her design and her house is amazing (the inside of a Volcano, if you’ve never seen it). I agree the dialogue seems
to be a step above some of the other personalities. I love when Phoebe wonders about the other islands or tells me about a crazy dream she just had...
