Types of Games Genre Combinations You'd Like to See More of?

FPS and casual life sim.

Would like to go to Tom Nook with a BFG, turn the tables, make him pay off his "debt".

RPG/JRPGs and puzzle to be honest. I?m not too interested in puzzles, and I?m not sure if there?s already a good amount of games like this (haven?t researched it), but it could be fun to combine the two. :)

I really want another game like Fantasy Life for 3DS. I know it sold well, so I'm not sure why Level 5 is just abandoning the franchise after one game. If I were to describe the genre, I'd call it a fantasy simulator/action RPG. The stories in the game remind me of Dragon Quest IX, my favorite DQ game, and all the skills you could level up reminds me of Runescape, two games that consumed a lot of my childhood. Even with all the jobs available in the game, I read that they decided removed some during development, one of them being farming.

If Level-5 doesn't give us another Fantasy Life, I would at least like to see a game very similar to it announced for Switch at some point.

A mix of RPG and sims, like Animal Crossing or Fantasy Life. Well, Animal Crossing has barely any RPG elements, but I just like playing realistic-ish games where you actually have something to work towards in some sense... With Animal Crossing you work towards your town to unlock everything you want, but you also have events and collections that keep you busy.

Fantasy Life is definitely the better example. It's very similiar to what Stardew Valley is, but I'd say it's more like Graveyard Keeper without the time pressure and super strict storyline. I like these casual RPGs and I'd like them to be more casual with the simulation aspect. Just let me live my life, but also give me quests or jobs (or conflict) that lead somewhere.

Rhythm games mixed with anything else.
There's already Necrodancer for a rhythm/rogue mix, and the Theatrhythm series for rhythm RPG's. The bit.trip series covers a few different bases as well with platformers and on-rail shooters (although Fate wasn't really a rhythm game?). Harmonix also had a game called Chroma which was a rhythm FPS, but that got canceled and I don't think it's coming back ever. Anyways, stuff like this. This is all great, I wanna see how people can take it from here!

Absolutely. Games like Bit Trip and Rhythm Heaven Fever are excellent, compelling, and super fun. Games based around or more connected with music seem like they should be much bigger on the game-world spectrum.

Oh I missed this reply the first time around, but there is a Fantasy Life 2! ...Except that it's a mobile game. And it's only released in Japan.
Level 5 is definitely open to the idea of making more Fantasy Life games, but yeah they need to be on an actual console and released outside of Japan.

I would love to see more games like Rune Factory. I'm not sure what genre the games belong to exactly (action rpg maybe?) but they also feature other elements like farming and dating simulation and item collecting.

I've played a few other games that were said to be alike, but so far, none have compared.

I also like tactical role playing games, but I'm not sure if that's been over done.

Rhythm game + anything would likely catch my interest x3 Love rhythm games, and am always up for seeing more new and unique takes on the genre...

Rhythm/visual novel games are very under appreciated. You get the satisfying narratives of visual novels with the addicting action of rhythm games. Sadly the only game I can think of that falls under that category is Persona 4 Dancing in Starlight. Both the story mode and song list are pitifully short, but it was a worthwhile spinoff.

I'm a sucker for visual novels + RPGs, or just anything with a dash of relationship-building with party members. For example, SMT, Persona, Dragon Age, Mass Effect :D

Basically an adventure game that also lets me build or decorate my own house/ design my own character, and hoard items. Adventure games tend to feel empty for me unless I have a sense of progress, so I love having a space to decorate. It helps me justify the hours I’ve poured into the game. Level-up type advancements do nothing for me, satisfaction-wise.

Edit: Ideally it’d be like skyrim with the hearthfire add-on, but with free house customization.

Imagine a combination between strategy and life-sim. It's sort of like Animal Crossing in that you build a town and relationships with its inhabitants, but you will also have to defend this town against hordes of enemies. You would slowly become attached to your units as they survive battle after battle and develop their own personalities. Then one day that unit is surrounded on all sides by enemies. You could save them, but it would cost the lives of half your army. After an agonizing minute you decide to put the city's defense before your beloved character; it's what they would have wanted. They self-destruct, destroying most of the enemy in the process. The day is saved, for now. You build a statue of that unit to place in the middle of your city. Everyone shall know the sacrifice made that day.

Basically, combine Animal Crossing with Xcom. Is this a horrible idea? Probably. I imagine one genre would end up being better, with the other becoming an annoyance. However if you somehow got the balance right I think it could be a very memorable experience.

yess this!! visual novels mixed with rpgs is like *chefs kiss*, the perfect combo.
i also agree that we need more genres mixed with rhythm games, imagine the possibilities.

This is an interesting question, it got me thinking.

I feel like there's so much potential when it comes to RPG + Sports or Racing. Some games have dabbled in this over the years, but I don't know if there's every been a really, really good game that went all in on this combination of genres as the main focus of gameplay.

I also like the idea of CCG/deckbuilding combining with different genres. You can mash it up with almost anything. Adventure, fighting, RPG, so many possibilities here too.

Sorry for the bump of an old thread, but thought it would be nice to hear others' ideas too!
