Two villagers crafting??

Ok so this is what went down in my town today:

1. When I first went on (9:00 AM), Broffina was crafting a gold lucky cat. Pinky was in her house doing nothing.
2. Two hours later I invited three of my friends over to get the recipe from Broffina.
3. Two of my friends left after collecting the recipe, but I kept showing the third one around. She wanted to see Pinky. We went in, and Pinky was crafting a cardboard table. We were both able to collect the recipe.
4. I went back to Broffina's house to see if she was still crafting, but she had left her house.

I thought only one villager could craft per day? What is this madness??

Nah, they switch every few hours, I've gotten up to three recipes per day from them.

I believe there's 3 phases of crafting? 1 in the morning, another early afternoon and then another in the evening

It mostly works for me with these times: 10 in the morning, 6 in the afternoon/evening and 0 to 1 in the night. Just look for the smoke coming out of the chimney.

i check during these times and they're crafting

10AM - 12PM
2PM - 5PM
8PM - 10PM

I think it varies depending on your playing habits. Mine craft early in the morning 6:30-7:30, then around 2:30, then usually around 7 pm, but last night I didn't get on until 9 pm and found someone crafting.
