Two Towns One DS?

I apologize if this is the wrong forum to post on :c I wasn't sure where'd this would fit most. But I haven't gotten a straight answer from google or anywhere else so far.
For Animal Crossing New Leaf, can you have an actual hard copy of the game then download(buy) a version from the Nintendo store to have two towns on one 3DS? Or do you need two 2DS for that or two hard copies? It'd be helpful if someone knows having both hard copy and download version on one DS could reply.
I wouldn't want to buy the download just to have it not work

You can have two or more physical copies per 3DS PLUS digital copy. So a digital and one, or more, physical is fine. Just remember if you change the time with the 3DS settings, it will affect all your games.

I'm pretty sure it only affects your games if you start the games up ^^
I'm getting another copy of ACNL, and this question never even popped into my mind xD I was so worried when I clicked the board x3

Awesome c: I never touch my 3DS time anymore, I accidentally did and ended up going forward four months in Animal Crossing. That was a big mistake

Now I shall have two villages to occupy all my time ;D

And dont forget that you can create 4 chars per world, lol, Mayor plus 3.. thats a lot of play time right there.

yeah each game cartridge maintains it's own game save on the cartridge, with the digital version being the only one on the system. You can download a game save transfer tool to move your cartridge save to the digital verion, but not the reverse.

yes but do NOT ever use another SD card (this assume you used the digital version) when I made a town on the second sd card after I downloaded the game onto it I make a new town and it was awesome, but then I try to use my regular SD card and the town is corrupted because it detect two save files

You can have as many physical copies as you want/afford/have time for but only 1 digital game on a single 3ds console. You won't be able to transfer items from one game to another unless you use a friends 3ds.
I have 2 physical copies and 2 3ds.

You can have one digital copy of the game and as many physical copies as you want, so having a digital copy and a physical one should be fine.

Yeah, the SD card is not intended to be swapped out for multiple game saves. it just breaks everything, and could lead to a complete corruption of all your data.
