Does it effect your game or not? People have been telling me that it's fine to time travel backwards and you won't risk your villagers moving out even if it's a few months. Is this true? I need to get back to September from December! :(

Villagers still move out if you TT backwards. Shops also change their stock when TT'ing backwards, but flowers, and mushrooms won't spawn, and tree's won't grow. Oh, turnips will also spoil. But other than that, TT'ing backwards has no risks.

Do villagers decide to move when you TT backwards, or is it only if they say "I'm moving out on X day" that this is affected?

Trees actually do grow while TTing backwards, and flowers do spawn (saying this as someone who frequently TT's backwards). Wouldn't be surprised if the same was true for mushrooms.

TTing backwards any number of days counts as one day backwards. The game treats it as one day whether you go back one day, one week, or 3 months. Just take the same precautions you would if you were going forward one day and you'll be fine.

Hm...

I TT backwards often as well. And I have never, ever seen a flower/mushroom spawn, or a tree grow. And I watch my hybrids like a hawk.

Well I buried fertilizer, TTed back 2 days, and it was still there.

I've time traveled backwards a few times (even by a whole month before), and I have to agree with Filly. The game does seem to treat it as if you just advanced to the next day, and I've noticed trees grow and flowers spawn. I've never had a villager just mysteriously move out without warning me, though. It seems that they're just as likely to move out if you time travel backwards as if you just played normally, day by day.
