Okay, I am generally against time travel, for myself that is, I just don't like the concept of it, I have no problems with others doing so, I used to, but I'm like, yeah whatever, if they enjoy the game like that.

Now here is my problem, I feel like the game is punishing me for not TTing. My grass is as good as gone (again) after the first time I stopped playing the game for a while but I'm right back there again after playing again since February.

I can't stand all this sand anymore and I am not a big pattern kinda guy, now I've heard TTing a certain time will get you ALL of your grass back instantly.

Since I am a N00b in this regard I have a few questions, I would like some serious answers please and nothing like "Blabla no big risk" etc... I am honestlt asking for detailed answers.

1- Do I get this right, if I travel forward a certain amount of time will ALL my grass be back? Afterwards do I just travel back again the same amount? DO I use teh ACNL clock for this or the 3DS one?
2- Can I also travel back instead of forward and if so are the risks different? Could past events be altered?
3- What is the EXACT time I need to travel for ALL the grass to be back.
4- Will all my flowers die? (I know turnips will)
5- I heard the Stalk Market will take a big hit, how long will its prices remain affected by the TT?
6- I also heard villagers could move out, is it true that the best way to prevent this is to actually play each day of the TT and talk to ALL of the villagers to see if they Ping?
7- How many villagers CAN move out during a TT, is this limited to just 1? How is this villager determined? Is it random or is it dependable on friendship status etc..

I'll keep it at this for now but know this, if you answer my questions we might get in a good conversation here, I want full knowledge before I decide to use TTing to get my grass back. (which is the ONLY thing that interests me here)

In retrospect, I always felt like TTing involved dodging a bunch of hurdles haha.

I'm no extreme expert pro but:

1.) It depends on how far you travel, but usually going 2+ months guarantees all your grass? Nobody knows the exact mathematical formula for grass grown (it'd take a lot of experimentation and time too since we can't file dig or anything lmao), but a lot of people skip around a month and a half to regrow grass.

You can travel back to your original date in one leap. It counts as a single day instead of the sum. I use the ACNL clock if I am certain my actions have no negative consequences. The benefit of using the DS clock is that you do not have to boot up an existing character, which means your day is not locked in and you can check for move outs or any other mistakes using a new character.

2.) The differences between travelling backwards vs. forwards is very tricky. I don't take notes for this so off the top of my head:

- Travelling backwards does not grow hybrids (aka if you water a bunch of flowers, the added probability of spawning a hybrid is cancelled)
- Travelling backwards does not cancel mail, events, etc. It will double/triple/quadruple/whatever. e.g. you'll receive more than one birthday invitation.
- Travelling backwards does not change turnip prices or premiums. Once you have booted up an existing character that premium/price is locked onto that one date permanantly.
- You cannot change events that have already happened. Villager plots, for instance, cannot be reversed once you have booted up an existing character on a certain day.
- Travelling backwards will not grow trees. In accordance to the no flower growth and no tree grown rule, I doubt it grows grass.

3.) refer to 1.

4.) backwards- no. Forwards, yes, unless you have beautiful town ordinance in effect.

5.) I don't quite understand. Like I explained before, a week's trends are determined before you even arrive on that day, meaning that a price is permanently specific to a day (iirc, I don't check turnip prices enough to confirm but this works with premiums). If Reese's buying price was bad before, it will stay bad. If it was good before, it should stay good so long as you are on the same date.

6.) Yes, day to day TTing is the safest way. Rumors are always there, pings are not.

However, if you prevent a villager from moving, you can TT as far into the future as you like with no chance of a move out. (e.x. I tell Rodeo to not move, log out, TT for 2 months to regrow grass, TT back to original date. No consequences. Your villagers will be aware you've been gone for a while though.) It's probably not a trick I'd recommend to people uncomfortable or new to TTing, but you can use the 3DS clock instead which allows you to use new characters to double check for move outs.

Remember, as soon as you log into an existing character, no matter if you cut the DS power, the events of the day are locked.

7.) Uh, I've typically heard of one but it's probably possible that more than one will move out unless the cancellation rule works inversely. I'm not qualified to answer this 8'D

aye have fun.

Okay so what would you recommend if ALL I want is my grass back, go forward then backward or go backward then forward?

I don't really understand the idea of the new character, so if I travel forward in time, load a NEW character that doesn't exist yet and notice a house of a villager is gone I can just turn off the 3ds load the game again, set back the time load an existing character and then the villager that had moved out will be back?

I'm actually glad you asked about all this because I've been in a bit of a TTin bind. I went ahead a couple months and I wanna go back and I'm too scared to TT backwards in one go because people say villagers can still move and all that.

I would personally do the following:

1 - Have the Beautiful Ordinance in effect.

This will prevent you from getting a ton of weeds and all your flowers dying. It won't do anything about turnips, though, so sell those first.

2 - Play the game as you normally would until someone pings you and asks to leave. Tell them no (unless you actually do want them out, then say yes).

When TTing, villagers can only move if someone is already thinking about moving. Only one villager can be thinking of moving at any given time. If you tell someone "don't move" then that same day no one is thinking of moving. (If you tell someone "yes, leave", only that villager will leave.) This makes it possible to TT in large jumps without losing anyone you don't intend to. I leapt 40 years forward a few times and no one moved.

3 - Save and quit.

4 - Change the date on the 3DS clock by going to System Settings > Other Settings > Date and Time > Today's Date. Set the date maybe 1 month ahead.

This is known as TTing with the 3DS clock, as opposed to TTing with the ingame clock. The two are different in that:

TTing with the ingame clock requires a mayor or pre-existing character to change the time. The game loads up your town immediately after. The game automatically saves any time it loads up your town. So if something bad happens as a result of the TTing, you are stuck with the results. Example: a villager moving out, etc.
TTing with the 3DS clock means that you changed the time without loading up your town, so nothing has saved YET. Your town's time/date is tied to your system's time/date. So if you change the 3DS time 1 week and 5 hours ahead, your game will also be 1 week and 5 hours ahead.

5 - Start your game but DO NOT LOG IN AS YOUR MAYOR OR OTHER EXISTING CHARACTER. Make a new character.

Mayors and other pre-existing characters cause the town to save as it loads up. But making a new character doesn't. The game won't save until you complete the getting registered as a resident/getting a tent thing.

6 - Use this new character to scout around your town. Look for anyone missing or in boxes. Look to see if your grass is back. Just look around in general for anything you don't want to happen.

I personally never talk to any of my villagers with this character because I don't want them to remember them and bring them up in conversations for ever afterwards. If you did step 2, no one should be in boxes/missing, but it never hurts to check.

7 - If you like what you see and there are no negative findings in your town, then go to Isabelle and Nook's to get registered as a resident. Go through the whole getting a tent and TPC. At this point the game will autosave.

If you didn't like what you found, don't talk to Isabelle. Exit the game by hitting the power button and then the home button. Adjust your 3DS clock accordingly to fix the problem. (Grass not back yet? Go forward another month, etc.) Continue from Step 5.

8 - Save and quit. You can now delete your new character at any time.

They did their job of scouting your town and saving the findings, you don't need them anymore.

9 - Change the 3DS clock to the current day/time.

Your game is now in the future. TTing forward counts every single day that passes, but TTing backwards however long only counts as one. Even if you go back 40 years, it's just one day ingame. So going backwards in time to the correct date doesn't have nearly the same consequences as going forwards.

10 - Load up your game as usual!

If you're reeeaaalllyyyy paranoid, you can make a new character and scout before loading up your mayor/whatever character, but I don't think it's necessary.
I find that sometimes, if my scouting character didn't talk to anyone, none of my villagers have forgotten me and treat me more or less the same as before I TT'd. I haven't looked into how this works thoroughly, though.

Hopefully this was helpful. o: I tried to make it as clear as possible and show the technical reasons why each step works. Other users may disagree with me about the easiest/safest way to TT to regrow grass, but this is what I would personally do. I TT extensively to cycle through villagers and have never bothered with my grass (I TT too much for it to erode), so this is just the basics of TTing safely.

Feel free to send me a PM if you've got any questions about something I wrote~

About this, I have a few questions, as I'll have to TT a bit when I get my 3DS back from repairs.

1. If the new character finds that somebody DID move, or is in boxes, is it still possible to quit without saving, change the clock a couple days back, play as the mayor (or new character) and tell them to stay?

2. If nobody moved, do you really need to save the new character? I dislike having to ruin the grass with a house without good reason. I know the reset trick works for things that are completely random, like campers, house plot placements, special visitors, etc. So if you're looking for a specific camper, obviously you need to save to make sure it's the same for your mayor. But moving isn't really random in the same way, is it? So if I try several times to make new characters in the same day without saving, is it even possible that different villagers will be moving out? If not, then you don't need to save, because it will be the same regardless, right?

I'm not sure if it's really clear, but... It's somewhat random who wants to move. But if someone wanted to move between day 1 (when you played) and day 10 (which you TT'd to), then when you start playing on day 10 and a villager is in boxes, then which villager would move wasn't decided on day 10 but on day 1, and so saving or resetting your new character wouldn't make a difference. Please tell me if this is right or wrong.

1 - Yes, that is the purpose of the new character. It lets you look around your town without anything saving. If you look in your Activity Log, it shooouuullldd tell you the last date you played Animal Crossing. If you set your 3DS clock back to that date, it should be like no time passed and nothing happened. (I haven't tested this, but there are guides out there detailing this method. It also matches up with some short-term TTing that I've done.)

2 - In theory, what you're saying sounds right. I think you're correct, but I don't have any personal experience in that to back it up.
