So Freya moved out (I kind of liked her but she kept pulling my leg everytime she would ping to move and then ended up staying even though I said bye lol). I knew I would be have a new villager moving in so I TT'd one day at a time and found the day when someone new would be moving in. Been making new save files without saving all day today and noticed that any time I found a plot, they would all be smugs. Even in my campsite.

Haven't had any luck with getting Marshal just yet, but I've gotten Julian, O'hare and Shep pretty often.

GIVE ME MARSHAL.

Anyone else experience this? How long did it take you?

Did the same exact thing myself before, I ended up getting most other villagers at least once and several multiple times before I got him. It's well worth it though for a villager you want. The only downside is, you can't really plot reset to get him in a specific spot since you get a different villager every time.

That's what I'm kind of iffy about. I'm not too particular about the plots but if it plots smack middle in my orchard or hybrids...it's like, why?! Lol. I'm hoping he will plot in the spots I've been seeing the plots at. There were 3 spots I've been getting plots at and each of them would work as they would work well with how I plan my pathways. But knowing my luck, Marshal will plot himself right next to townhall x-x

I took me about 6 hours on and off though the day. A jock villager had just moved out and I had all the other types, so I knew I had a chance of getting Marshal. Finally, a plot appeared in front of the caf? and it was him! I was like "Oh yes!"

I resetted for random move-ins and noticed that it would always be same 4 villagers a day, like I'd only get plots from 4 villagers even if I resetted 20 times.

I tried doing that a couple times or so, but no matter what I couldn't get the villager i specifically wanted so lmao I just gave up. It's not so bad though, some of the random villagers I got were pretty okay.

I tried a couple of times when I first started playing but it wasn't really worth it.

I've had Marshal camp twice in my town just by playing normally.

How is it not worth it? If you get a smug villager every time it's no worse than a 1/31 chance. Depending on how many smug villagers you have in your town/have recently moved out, it could be a bit better than that.

Ohh nice! Glad it worked out so nicely for you! I'm disappointed that Felicity decided to plot right next to my cafe but...maybe it's because she's such a coffee drinker. I always see her in there when I go in for my daily coffee.

I got Pietro six times in a row just before getting Marshal Lol I was worried that I was going to get him for the rest of my resets DX not that he's bad but I wasn't looking for a sheep CD I have Muddy.

I've gotten Marshal before in my campsite but I had forgotten to ask him to move to my town and I went to work and yup by the time I got off he was gone. TT-ing back gave me a new villager Lol.

I don't think I'll be doing this for the rest of my dreamed lol I'll just get them from my cycling town or from someone here in the forums.

Great news! After probably 10 hours of resets, I finally got Marshal!

Ahh good for you !! Might as well update that signature as well.

I do think there is something nice about getting a dreamie as an original in your town, whether it be from the beginning of the game, a plot, or camping.

Given the whole thing is pure luck its hard to say one way or the other. I did get one of my dreamies at the campsite recently though (Blanche). She was one of 2 remaining dreamies so that was pretty lucky.

Except frequently you don't get a camper, and you won't get a smug everytime, even if you have no smugs currently. I have no idea where that myth came from but it's absolutely not true--I've had the game throw a third peppy at me when I had no uchis, for example.

Let's be very generous with the odds and say half of the time you have a camper, and half of that time it's a smug (way high imo, but we're being generous here). Then your odds of a particular smug would be 1/120. How long does it take to do one reset and runaround? Maybe three minutes, though I think it's actually longer. With those numbers, you get that your expected amount of time to get a particular smug camper is 6 hours. It could be more or less depending on your luck, but that's the projection.

And keep in mind that is being very generous about assumptions--I certainly don't get campers anywhere near half the time, nor do I get campers/plots of a missing personality type half of the time. OP took 10 hours--that may even be good luck.

Of course, whether it is "worth it" is totally subjective. But to me, I'm not going to spend 10 hours doing something totally mundane/not fun for something that I can get in almost no time at all (by getting the villager from somebody else). YMMV.

And again, what is worth it is subjective. I'm certainly not knocking on anybody who thinks it is. But from a pragmatic standpoint, I think a lot of people would prefer not to do such a thing.

Ive tried doing that before and I have gotten him by luck a couple of times and even via your method, I remember on one of my save files I was so desperate for Marshal and I got him as a random move-in which I was so happy about. Personally I think it's better to pick a villager up from another town, because you can choose where they plot and I just couldn't bear having a villager move-in wherever they wanted.
